PixlBit's 2013 Sneak Preview: The New Kids on the Block

We're getting a lot of interesting new games this year...

Remember Me

Capcom gets a lot of flak for some of its business practices, but the developer/publisher has also been one of the most aggressive creators of original IPs this generation. Capcom has also been one of the most proactive about working with Western developers, and that’s how we end up with Remember Me, a brand-new game coming in what may very well be the twilight of this console generation.

Created by Paris-based developer Dontnod, Remember Me began life as a Sony exclusive known as Adrift. Sony pulled out of the deal during a streamlining of upcoming projects, but Dontnod was fortunate to have investors with a strong attachment to the game, and Remember Me continued development without publisher interference. The game was first shown at GamesCom in 2011 to publishers, and after a number of offers, Dontnod went with Capcom.

Remember Me takes place in the distant future of 2084 in the city of Neo-Paris. Players control Nilin, a female Memory Hunter. Her job is to find targets and “remix” their memories by going into their minds and changing small bits of their recollection. Everything is well and good until someone steals Nilin’s memory, and she goes on a quest of revenge and discovery.

So far, Remember Me is looking like something fresh and interesting. Nilin is proficient at stealth and urban traversal, but she can mix things up with hand to hand combat when things get hectic. She has access to special abilities that can be brought up via a power wheel that pauses the action, similar to the Mass Effect series. Dontnod also gets major props for creating a female protagonist that kicks all kinds of ass while staying covered up and grounded in some kind of reality. You’ll want to remember this game when it hits in May for Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3.
