Etrian Odyssey IV's Battle Theme Goes with Everything

And sometimes it actually makes it better

I'm kicking off a new segment where I talk about game music, and I wanted to do something special to introduce it. There's a lot of information in the YouTube description you might find interesting about the video itself, but I don't see any value in repeating that a second time here. Instead, I'll give you a little behind the scenes story about how I came up with this.

I picked up Etrian Odyssey IV at my local GameStop and asked if they had a copy of Fire Emblem Awakening as well. Turned out they didn't, but there was an abandoned pre-order at another GameStop about 10 miles away, so the clerk gave them a call and asked them to hold it for me, which they did.

On the way there, I popped the soundtrack into my CD player to give it a listen. When the battle theme came on, I was blown away. It was super energetic and intense.I also realized that a Hyundai Accent can, in fact, reach 90 mph (although it starts to shake.)

I had the idea for putting this video together while chatting with other staff. I started with over 30 clips I wanted to use, then narrowed that down further. Some stuff did end up being cut out in the end, not because it didn't work, but because other stuff worked out better.

The hardest cut to make was Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. I really wanted to use the scene where the Nazis open the Ark during the guitar solo (get it? Face melting guitar solo?) I ended up letting that one go for pretty selfish reasons. I wanted to share the clip with my kids, but didn't want them to get nightmares. It is pretty graphic, even today.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the compilation, and look forward to more video game music related stuff from me in the future. Also, I need a name for this segment! so if you have any ideas, let me know in the comments!

Guile wasn't too happy about it either.

Kinda has the 80s hair metal feel Smile

Yeah, the 80's was kind of the decade of action stuff. That's probably why I picked so much stuff from that decade.

I have to say it. I have to say it. This was very impressive. Nice work, Angelo. Very nice.

WAIT waitwaitwait....you cut Raiders of the Lost Ark's face-melting scene for being too graphic, but not the Unit-02 VS. MPE Series from End of Evangelion?

Besides that (and teh spoilery-ness of that scene and teh FFVII clip), cool video! I got to really geek out for a few minutes, I swear I knew almost everything in it to some degree (and I'd be lying if I said that Asuka being teh preview image wasn't half teh reason I read this article at all), and I'm really looking forward to playing this game!

LOL, I cut it because I didn't want to give my youngest nightmares. I said it's graphic, but not that it's too graphic. My reasons were pretty selfighte's a little on the sensitive side I don't have anything against the clip. The scene from End of Eva wouldn't bother them at all.

Also, I get the spoilery stuff, but when we're talking about stuff that came out when I was in high school, and I have since been to college, been involved in a career for 10 years, and added a wife and some children to my life, I think it's safe to assume that the statute of limitations on spoilers has expired Wink

Nice to find another big Eva fan though. I love that you just knew what fight that was right off the bat.
