My only interest is in XV and the X remake.
E3 2013: The Future of Final Fantasy
There's a lot of Final Fantasy on the way, but is it the Final Fantasy people want?
FINAL FANTASY X and X-2 HD
It feels like Square Enix is taking its sweet time getting the beautified versions of their first PS2 Final Fantasy games onto store shelves. That’s a good thing, really; it would be so easy for them to do some quick uprezzing and shove it out the door. Fortunately, they seem to be putting in the extra bit of work to make sure that these two games impress a new set of fans while bringing a nostalgic tear to the eyes of gamers that were there back in 2001 and 2003.
Oh, and if you are one of those potential new fans, I’d avoid the E3 2013 trailer, as it’s frontloaded with massive spoilers.
So, what do you have to look forward to in this PS3 collection (the Vita version is split into two games)? Well, you have two massive RPGs, naturally. Final Fantasy X and X-2 easily represent 80-140 hours of gameplay, depending on how deep you want to go on side content and maxing out your characters. Both games are the previously Japan-only “International” versions, which basically mean that you’re getting extra content and slightly tougher difficulty levels. Of course the games look gorgeous in HD, and this is shaping up to be what I consider a “top tier” HD collection ala Ico/Shadow of the Colossus instead of the quick and dirty ports like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time or Silent Hill. Yes, the games are using the original voice actors, but that’s part of the charm, really.
Look forward to Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD later this year, but no firm release date has been given at this time.
