PB & Jason Issue 30: Hablabhlah

The iPad 2, GDC, and Explodemon headline this week's issue of PB & Jason.

If you didn't know, today Apple announced the second version of the iPad was on its way to retail stores, going on sale March 11th. In this issue of PB & Jason, I give some brief details and share some thoughts on the platform.

Afterward, there's some coverage of Sony's NGP briefing, meant for developers attending GDC. It was mostly a dev-centric presentation, so I bring out some of the more relevant and interesting bullet points for listeners.

The main focus of this week's issue was Nintendo's GDC keynote. Rather than focusing on the handful of games Iwata mentioned, I center in on the concepts of which Iwata spoke, including his quote from my oblivious nemesis, Jeremy Slaczka.

This issue rounds down with some Explodemon talk. I recently finished playing through a review download of the game, and figured PB & Jason would be the first place to hear my thoughts about it.

No GameCubes were taped together in the making of this podcast.

Good cast Jason really enjoyed listining.

On the topic of Iwata's keynote I didn't get to see it but you explained it very well. The point that Iwata made that you have to be able to explain the game in 10 mins or less and have the person interested is a pretty good truth. I'm guessing about half of my Wii collection I can explain pretty easily while not really focusing on what really isn't that important. The core of the game if you will.

It is interesting that Splosion man and Explodemon had very similar concepts and was working on at the same time. I like hearing about that type of stuff. Things you really wouldn't hear that much about.

Nice episode, Jason. I enjoyed your GDC recap and I really think you summarized Iwata's speech pretty well. As for Explodemon, it sounds pretty lame - for reference, I don't think Splosion Man is all that great either. I think it gets way more praise than it really deserves.

I didn't realize you linked to it! Had I, yeah, I definitely would have mentioned that. Whoops!

Also for the record, I got a bit a little off: Gamers should be able to recognize the simple, creative concept within ten minutes of playing the game. Iwata didn't give a timeframe for how long it would take people to convey what they had played, though he did suggest it should be easy to explain.
