PixlBit's 2015 Game of the Year Awards!

As 2016 is here, our staff looks back to our favorite games of 2015. WAY back!

Number 5

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell

By Julian Titus

It’s no secret that the 8th generation of consoles has had more than its fair share of remakes and re-releases. The PS4 is lousy with them. As a ceaselessly nostalgic gamer I do not actually see this as a bad thing, for the most part. I remember the games I love with the rosiest of rose colored glasses, and all too often my recollection is shattered when I actually try and revisit them. So when developers can put a fresh coat of paint on some of the classics I really can’t complain.

Enter the re-release of Saints Row IV, which was one of my favorite games of 2013. When I found out it was coming to PS4 I didn’t hesitate to double-dip on what remains one of the craziest, most satisfying open world experiences I have ever had. If you read my review you will see a score that does not reflect my love of that title, because it had glaring technical issues on the Xbox 360 that impeded my enjoyment of it. Thanks to the power of the PS4 (and surely the Xbox One as well, but I have not tried that version) I can enjoy super jumping and gliding across Steelport with little fear of poor framerates, graphical hitches, or hard crashes.

This is a chance to fall right back into the trippiest of power trips I can think of. Saints Row IV is simply fun, and that is something that so often gets lost as developers desperately try to elevate the medium. While that is important, sometimes I just want to run a hundred miles an hour and then kill an alien with a super-powered DDT.

And there’s no shame in that.

That's totally different than my list, which you can check out here.

I'm thinking this article would've been better served by a trollface as its image instead.

because all of these are remasters, or collections?

What about original games that came out this year? Can we get that article?

What do you mean? The only good games come out in the past. We need to celebrate rereleases as much as we need to celebrate "new" Nintendo games.

Well there is certainly a variety of tastes on this list. I certainly loved Scholar of the First Sin, and I'm playing Grim Fandango for the first time on PS+, and I'm experiencing it for the first time, and it is a rather lovely, funny game. I think I can learn to love it.

I didn't know this was going to be the "Game of the Year" article.

I loved Gat Out of Hell. I played it on Xbox 360 with online co-op, and I think it crashed maybe once. Otherwise it seemed to run fine. I'm worried about Saints Row IV now though. Maybe I'll get the PS4 version when I get to it.

I played some Grim Fandango on my Vita. I missed a clue on the computer in the main characters's boss's office because I couldn't see the screen clearly enough. I want to play it again on PS4 so I can see everything.

I got Uncharted Collection. I think I'll play Uncharted 3 there. Also Rare Replay which I haven't touched yet.

This ... is actually a great list for someone like me who's played none of these but is interested in all of them.
