PixlBit's 2015 Game of the Year Awards!

As 2016 is here, our staff looks back to our favorite games of 2015. WAY back!

Number 3

Grim Fandango Remastered

By Casey Curran

Before I owned a console, I used to love point and click adventure titles. Sure, I only had access to the free, but awful web browser titles with horrendous voice acting and obscure, borderline unsolvable puzzles, but there was a charm to them which I loved. Yet though I played many better ones since, I still felt like the modern ones whether made by Telltale or Double Fine were missing something. Whether there was more of an emphasis on story or quick time events, I always felt like the puzzles were too easy and not reaching their full potential.

Enter Grim Fandango Remastered, a game which has finally delivered exactly what I wanted from the genre. The world is wonderfully creative, blending Mexican Day of the Dead visuals with a film noir atmosphere, and tells a tale which contains some great twists and many instances of excellent humor. Combine this with the game's challenging, but not unreasonable puzzles and it's no secret as to why Grim Fandango has been hailed a classic amongst its cult following for so many years.

That's totally different than my list, which you can check out here.

I'm thinking this article would've been better served by a trollface as its image instead.

because all of these are remasters, or collections?

What about original games that came out this year? Can we get that article?

What do you mean? The only good games come out in the past. We need to celebrate rereleases as much as we need to celebrate "new" Nintendo games.

Well there is certainly a variety of tastes on this list. I certainly loved Scholar of the First Sin, and I'm playing Grim Fandango for the first time on PS+, and I'm experiencing it for the first time, and it is a rather lovely, funny game. I think I can learn to love it.

I didn't know this was going to be the "Game of the Year" article.

I loved Gat Out of Hell. I played it on Xbox 360 with online co-op, and I think it crashed maybe once. Otherwise it seemed to run fine. I'm worried about Saints Row IV now though. Maybe I'll get the PS4 version when I get to it.

I played some Grim Fandango on my Vita. I missed a clue on the computer in the main characters's boss's office because I couldn't see the screen clearly enough. I want to play it again on PS4 so I can see everything.

I got Uncharted Collection. I think I'll play Uncharted 3 there. Also Rare Replay which I haven't touched yet.

This ... is actually a great list for someone like me who's played none of these but is interested in all of them.
