After investigating this one out of curiosity, I've figured out that it's going to take a bit of a lift to do, because I need to learn a new technology, but I'll totally do it if you guys think you'll use it.

Let me know!

I think I'd use it, but I'd honestly have to think about it when I'm more awake. I could definitely see myself talking to people through IM on here, but when would that be convenient vs. irritating I wonder? I say just don't add that "Seen at ..." Facebook thing so I can respond at my leisure and lie about being busy and I'm all for it.

I think live chat here on the site would be a great thing to have. I'm not saying I'd use it everyday but it would be very appreciated in certain contexts. It would be especially fun to utilize during E3 pressers or other events that many of us might watch together or want to toss out anecdotes to one another during. Most of us on the site are scattered all around the place so when events like E3 happen or when interesting things in general happen and we want to talk about it together a lot of it usually ends up having to happen on Twitter, which is fine but having a chat here on the site would be another viable option for us to bullshit in realtime. If a chat system was up by the time E3 came around I'm sure I'd use it.

Thanks for the input, guys.

Follow on question - If I implemented a chat, would you want it to be person to person or group (site wide) chat? Or both?

I originally thought only about site wide but having person to person would be really great as well, so probably both now that you ask.

So, you are asking if we want some of the things or all of the things?

Basically. If it's a group chat, I could just implement a Chatango widget without much fuss, but if I do person-to-person chatting it's going to take a small feat of engineering, but I'm up for the challenge Smile.

Either way is fine with me, but I'm probably not the focus group.

I'd prefer both, but would tend to use person-to-person more during non-E3 esque events I think. Still a small sample here, though.

I would start off with the easiest or fastest solution, then add things as needed. Just to test how often it is used at all. Sounds cool though!

I agree with that.

Sounds great to me.

Will it include the ability to see who is on because that would be cool.

I may be late to the party, but I've been looking for a chat room to jump into for a while now. I'd be on most days too and it'd be easier than blogging.
