Namco Announces Namco Generations Line of Downloadable Titles

The games in the line will appear on XBLA and PSN

Beginning with Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, releasing on November 17th for XBLA and Novemeber 23rd for PSN, Namco has announced a new line of retro remakes.

Alongside the new Pac-Man revision will be Galaga Legions DX and Aero-Cross, a title Namco bills as a "reimagining" of Metro-Cross, an NES game based on skateboarding, platforming, and the future! For those interested in classic arcade titles and their remakes, Namco also stated they plan to announce future titles in the Generations line in 2011.

New Line of Downloadable Games Update Classic Namco Franchises from the Arcades of Yesterday to the Consoles of Today



SANTA CLARA, Calif., (Nov. 16, 2010) – Leading video game publisher and developer NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. today announced Namco Generations™, a brand of digitally distributed games on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system’s PlayStation®Network. Namco Generations games will reinvent favorite Namco franchises with high-definition graphics, enhanced gameplay features, and regularly updated community news.

The Namco Generations brand aims to connect generations of gamers from around the world, reimagining classic Namco games for a new era of fans. Players of all ages will be able to re-discover cultural phenomena, famed classics and forgotten gems with updated graphics and exciting new features. Namco Generations titles will be updated regularly with Namco Generation News, a newsletter that allows developers to reach out to the community with behind-the-scene information, insider tips, and other special announcements. Players will be able to access the latest community news through the main menu of any Namco Generations title.



PAC-MAN® Championship Edition DX, the follow-up to 2007’s award-winning Xbox LIVE Arcade title, will be the first game available under the Namco Generations label when it is released on November 17 for Xbox LIVE Arcade, and November 23 for PlayStation Network. Additional titles in development include Galaga Legions™ DX and Aero-Cross™, a reimagining of Namco’s 1985 arcade hit, Metro-Cross®. More classic franchise revival announcements can be expected throughout 2011.

I didn't even know the original Galaga Legions had already been released! I'll have to check it out at some point, but I can already say I'll probably pick up the DX version of the game on Chris's PS3 once it makes it out.

You can already get a taste of a (arguably insuperable) reimagining of Metro Cross in Noby Noby Boy. Hold the left analogue stick to the right and press select: a minigame will be unlocked. The music during this minigame is based on the music from Metro Cross. And it's wonderful.
