Atari and Sony Reveal Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime

The game will adopt a top-down shooter style of play for up-to-four simultaneous players both locally and online.

Today, Atari and Sony revealed that yet another Ghostbusters game is currently in development, titled Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime. The game will follow-up last year's successful release on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC, excluding Wii owners this time around.

Up-to-four players locally or online will be able to bust ghosts in the top-down shooter style game. The last title adopted a third-person perspective lead players through the brand new adventure starring the classic crew, complete with real voice work from much of the original cast.

Sanctum of Slime will not feature any of the original cast, and by extension, no voice work from said stars.

Developer Wanako is integrating support for standard proton pack shooting as well as the plasma inductor and the fermion shock. The game will also sport big bosses that require teamwork to take down, and the ability to drive the latest version of Ecto, the Ecto-4WD.

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime currently has a tentative release date of spring 2011, leaving players a relatively short wait time till the game is available on the various download services.

When I first saw this news, I was pretty excited to see a new Ghostbusters game being made. When I heard that it wasn't going to involve any of the old talent, my heart definitely sank.

It still looks like it could be a great game, but I think it's going to depend largely on the team mechanics. If it's the equivalent of an isometric top-down shooter, I don't know if I'll be able to stomach it for long.

This isn't what I was expecting after seeing the headline. Ghostbusters was fun, especially the co-op, so I'm not sure why they'd change it up. It's also going to be missing a lot of charm without the original talent.
