Isaac Clarke To Get Chilly Reception In Dead Space 3?

Hopefully that armor has a heating system.

Dead Space 3 has yet to be announced formally by EA, but that’s not going to keep the proverbial cat (or is that necromorph?) from getting out of the bag. After the success of Dead Space 2, and the cross-media blitz that EA has done with the franchise, a third game in the series was pretty much a foregone conclusion.

What comes as a surprise is how this information got out. As luck would have it, an Israeli TV show called “The Headlines” was taking a tour of an EA studio, and a viewer caught a sign reading “Dead Space 3”. While this was enough to spark speculation and cries of fakery, some more details have surfaced since then.

Coming from an inside source for website Siliconera, it seems that Dead Space 3 will be changing out the closed, industrial structures of the USG Ishimura and The Sprawl for a more open, icy planet known as Tau Volantis. Isaac crash lands on this planet, most likely not long after escaping The Sprawl with Ellie, the tough-as-nails CEC officer from the second game. Believing Ellie to be dead, Isaac heads off in search of help and comes across another survivor, who sends Isaac off into the harsh blizzard-like weather to find his partner.

The game is sure to invite comparisons to Capcom’s Lost Planet, and it looks as if Isaac will be fighting a new enemy on Tau Volantis, called “the hive mind” for now. We’ll go out on a limb here and say that necromorphs probably show up at some point.

Moving the setting of the game away from the industrial, mechanical Sprawl and onto a harsh planet is certainly a different approach for the Dead Space franchise. While we will be on the lookout for further details, expect a formal announcement from EA in the near future.

Dead Space 2 is on my short list for game of the year consideration so far. More of this franchise is most welcome.

I'm actually very interested in this title because this would play a lot like "The Thing" which is my favorite horror movie of all time (if you don't count Alien). It would be nice to see a horror game that doesn't depend on the dark.

I'll have to give Dead Space 2 a whirl at some point, but after the first Dead Space, I can't say I'm very interested.

I think that the Thing game on the PS2 and Xbox was really great at the time, but it doesn't hold up well today. I'm really curious to see the Dead Space mechanics work in a more open environment. Hopefully Visceral Games will be coming up with some huge enemies.
