Why So Blue, Wii?

The Wii is getting a special blue edition to mark the European release of Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Nintendo is certainly no stranger to releasing alternate color versions of their hardware. They've already released the Wii in white, black, red and now we can add baby blue to the Wii's color spectrum.

The new Wii will be bundled with Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. North American gamers who have been waiting for a Wii to be released in this hue are out of luck though, as the bundle will only be available in Europe.

For those hoping to score a console via eBay, the bundle becomes available the same day Mario and Sonic does, which is November 18 in Europe. If it's any consolation while North America won't get the console, the game does come out three days prior on November 15.

I think it's very strange seeing Sonic on the box of a Nintendo system...

Too bad it's the same colour as the blue Wiimote they came out with a while back, it looks a little weird to me. A darker blue would be a better choice, one that more closely matched the colour of Sonic or Mario's coveralls.

In the end, Retro has delivered a solid new entry in the series, but one that doesn’t totally capture what originally made the series so compelling.
