Mass Effect 3 Jumps on the Online Pass Bandwagon

Gamers wanting to join the online battle for the galaxy will need a pass to do so.

While we’re all very excited that Mass Effect 3 will feature online supported multiplayer in the form of “Galaxy at War” there is one little thing that gamers may take issue with: the support of the Online Pass program.

That’s right; EA has announced that the multiplayer content on Mass Effect 3 will have to be unlocked via a special single use code included in brand new copies of the game.  Those who purchase the game used without the code intact or rent the game will have to shell over an estimated $10 before jumping online to save the galaxy from the Reapers.

Mass Effect 3 joins the ranks of Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, Mortal Kombat and many other high profile games that require some kind of code authentication for online play.  Love it, hate it or tolerate it, it’s becoming apparent that online passes are not simply a passing trend—they’re here to stay.

Hate it. Stop with the online passes! They're a conflict of interest with Xbox Live Gold memberships and should just be integrated with PlayStation Plus!
