Sony Exclusive Fighting Game to Mash-Up Mascots?

A Smash Bros. inspired fighter may be in the works.

Rumors have been abundant over the last two days about Sony’s potential new Intellectual Property. It’s possible that they have been pointing toward a Super Smash Brothers style fighting game. The game seems to be called - or code named - Title Fight. This rumor was leaked by a game developer at SuperBot Entertainment named Paul Gale, on his blog

Some fighters who seem destined to appear in the game from the original rumor include Uncharted’s Nathan Drake, Twisted Metal's Sweet Tooth, Killzone's Colonel Radec, and God of War’s Kratos, as well as Fat Princess, Sly Cooper and Parappa the Rappa from their self-titled games. The blog and Twitter pictures have both turned up a screen of Sweet Tooth’s character model and a couple of other murky screens.  Paul Gale details some of the game’s levels and gameplay mechanics, including level-specific items and three tiers of finishing moves. The recent Playstation 3 Ad, codenamed “Michael,” likely foreshadows these fighters and more.

Eurogamer broke news that SuperBot Entertainment has confirmed that it’ll be an exclusive developer for a Sony Computer Entertainment America PS3 exclusive. Their website also asks for the help of experienced fighting game developers in their current job advertisements. At the very least, it adds some weight to this rumor.

Sony has yet to officially comment on these rumors and speculation. Let us know what characters you hope Sony includes.

I honestly don't recall there being much of an outcry from the Sony community for a game like this. Smash Bros. worked because while the characters came from different worlds, the aesthetic lent itself to the concept that these characters could all interact with each other.

I have a hard time seeing Nathan Drake, Kratos, Jak and Daxter and Sweet Tooth all melding together to make this work.

Sega did something like this in a game called Fighters Megamix and although kind of strange, it was one of the best fighters on the Saturn. Although they don't mix well, it can work.

Xbox One is the Future

It’s safe to say that Sony delivered an impressive showing at their E3 press conference and gained a ton of good will with gamers looking to upgrade to next generation consoles. While it’s far too early to declare the PS4 the winner of the next console war (the systems are five months away, after all), many people in the gaming community have latched on to the system since it still offers gamers the freedom to trade, sell, and buy used games. It would be foolish to count Microsoft out at this point, however, and even if many elements of the Xbox One are less than attractive, people should understand that it’s a glimpse into the future.
