Square Enix Says to Expect More Deus Ex
The popular cyberpunk RPG is just one of many core franchises for the company.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution came out earlier this year to glowing reviews and strong sales, selling over 2 million units worldwide in its first month. It’s no wonder, then, that Deus Ex has positioned itself as one of Square Enix’s major franchises for the future. In a financial conference call, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada stated that Deus Ex has become a core intellectual property for the company, and that the franchise will see another release.
Wada says that the goal of Square Enix is to have a stable of “ten IPs” that can make “a continuous profit contribution” for the company. Of those ten franchises, the ones that we know about are the aforementioned Deus Ex, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quest, Tomb Raider, and Hitman. New, unannounced games are on the way as well, though. "Regarding yet unannounced IPs, we should certainly be able to announce 2 to 3 titles to everyone within a few years," said Wada during the call.
We know that a new RPG is in the works from Dragon Quest IX producer Ryutaro Ichimura using the Unreal Engine 3. Eidos Montreal, the developer of Deus Ex, is also working on a new game in the well-respected Thief franchise, as well as an unannounced title. Could Thief be one of the new core IPs for Square Enix?
