Wii U to Show at 2012 CES

Nintendo will show the same tech demos on display at last year's E3.

In a statement made to Joystiq, Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo Wii U will indeed be made available to demo at the 2012 CES conference.

“Nintendo of America, working with the 2012 International CES management, will offer demos of the upcoming Wii U console to members of the media who did not see the system at the 2011 E3 Expo.”

While news that Nintendo will be publicly parading out the Wii U for only the second time is certainly good, Nintendo went on to make it clear that Nintendo will not have any real presence at the show, nor will any of the demos differ from what was shown at E3.

“Nintendo will not have a booth at CES, nor does it plan to include any games, experiences or information beyond what was available at the 2011 E3 Expo.”

Nintendo concluded by saying that the Wii U is still on track to hit store shelves sometime “between the start of the 2012 E3 Expo in June, and the end of 2012.”

We’ll have more information on the Wii U as it becomes available.

Too bad it's just more of the same from E3. Oh well, hopefully more information is forthcoming soon.

My prediction is that no new information will be revealed until E3 2012, and the system will launch in November 2012. Given the reaction to the unveil last E3, with all the confusion and everything, Nintendo are better off waiting until they have something of substance to show. That means actual games, and they won't have enough of those ready until E3, probably.

Nintendo can't show off the concept of the controller or other new features of the system until they have real, working games. Trickling out info won't cut it, they need to show how the Wii U will actually be different instead of just showing an empty case and saying a lot of words.

I know CES is almost a non-issue at this point for the industry, but if Nintendo plans on having a booth there, they should have something new to show. I'd rather they just skip CES entirely and perhaps show something new at GDC, or perhaps have a special Space World type of event.

I can't wait for late 2012 when Arkham City will finally be available. Oh, wait.

Nintendo announced they aren't announcing anything new. So...yeah.
