Square Enix Servers Compromised

Another intrusion in a year full of them.

If you are a member of the Square Enix Members club, look for an email from the publisher themselves about a "limited server intrusion." On December 12, a server was compromised and had to be temporarily shut down. This has only affected North America and Japan.

Square Enix assures that no personal information has been "accessed," although the server in question contained email addresses, names, addresses and phone numbers of its 1.8 million registered users. Credit card numbers and login information were stored on another server so they weren't in danger.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension of the Square Enix Members service,” said the company. “We take data security extremely seriously and we regret any inconvenience this may have caused our customers and fans. We appreciate your patience and support at this time as we finalize our investigation in the next few days.”

Just glad that the Final Fantasy XI and XIV information wasn't affected. I already had to get a new debit card after that PSN debacle.
