Rumor: Wii U App Store for Both Console and Controller

The controller that looks like a Tablet may be one after all.

Earlier today The Daily announced via an unnamed source, that Nintendo plans to release an app store for the Wii U, which is scheduled to release sometime this year. While Nintendo has already implemented quasi-App stores through the use of their DSi Shop and Wii Store, the Wii U’s unnamed app store looks to expand far beyond this, offering a wider array of apps. Additionally it was noted that Wii U owners can expect to run apps both on the Wii U and the controller independently.

It’s unknown if Nintendo plans to monetize its app store with a point system, or opt for a simple pay to play style.

At this point these claims are merely speculation, but make sure to stay tuned to PixlBit as we uncover more information about the Wii U and its upcoming release.

They were pretty clear on the Wii U controller not acting independently of the console. Does this mean that may change?

Possibly, but all of this information is still rumored so it's probably safe to stick with what is still confirmed. However, from my point of view I think the Nintendo would be stupid not to take advantage of the fact the controller, is in fact a Tablet. Providing a controller that could surf social networking sites, watch you-tube videos, and check email would be an appealing addition to the Wii U system.

You know, the loophole would be loading the tablet with a bunch of ram, then just having to load the program you want from the console. It wouldn't be ideal, but it could work. The drain on the battery would be fairly heavy too.

Only problem is, we're assuming that Nintendo finally gets their head around actually using the internet. This has been nothing but trouble for them thus far.

I figure there might be some limitations. If we can run apps on the controller independently i.e. no Wii U streaming, then I'm sure there will be hardware limitations upon apps that any company wishes to develop. Then there's also the idea that the Wii U streams any app with no hardware limitations other than the Wii U's which is bounds better than the CPU inside the controller.

In my opinion the best way to take use of this functionality is to just stream any app from the Wii U onto the controller. I don't see a sizable percentage of Wii U users taking out the Wii U controller for a walk.

I'll believe when I see it. I'd use it if I can get digital comics/manga on the go.

On a side note, I can imagine Wii U games having instruction manuals readable on the tablet itself instead of physical ones, if the 3ds is any indication.
