Theatrythm to Serenade North America This Summer

The popular (in Japan) rhythm game gets a North American release window

Final Fantasy has produced some odd spinoffs, but none are quite so odd and charming as the franchise’s first foray onto the Nintendo 3DS, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.  Upon its release in Japan this past February the rhythm/RPG hybrid saw a 90% sell through, pushing just under 70,000 units in its first week alone.  While it had been previously noted that the game would be coming to North America at some point, it wasn’t until today that we had any inkling as to when that could be.

Squaresoft has informed us that Theatrhythm Final Fantasy will waltz its way to the Americas this summer.  When exactly this summer?  Your guess is as good as ours.  The game will feature over 70 musical scores from various games spanning the franchise's illustrious 25 year history.

We’re still awaiting word as to whether day one DLC released in Japan which added up to 8 additional songs to the game’s vast library of tunes will be included, but that is likely a formality at this point.

We’ll have more information on this 3DS exclusive as it becomes available.

This is good news. I wasn't entirely sure it was going to make it out of Japan, but I knew there was a chance. I'll have to see how the DLC is handled before I commit though, and what all comes on the base game.

This game is almost enough to make me buy a 3DS. I really don't see why it couldn't have been made for the DS though. Oh wait...piracy.

Happy 25th Square! You throwing a big party?

....

What's that? Yu are? And the music is from all the FFs? Nice? What do I need to bring?

...I have to bring more money, otherwise the band won't play EVERY single song from FF history? Couldn't I just buy a FFV/FFVI re-release?

...What do you mean that takes effort? But you're only 25 once!

...Fine, fine, I'll see if I can make it. No gurantees though. Money's tight. The economy and all...
