NBA 2K13 Returns With an All-Star Preorder Incentive

I'm playing as Larry Bird for that 3-point contest.

2K Sports has produced the definitive official NBA simulation games for the past couple of years.  Beginning their domination with their Jordan-centric NBA 2K11, they expanded upon the formula a year later with an entry that included a plethora of NBA legends.  Jordan even shared cover duties with Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.

Innovating with every new edition in a franchise is tough business, and is understandably amplified for the annual release schedule that is the standard in the sports simulation arena.  So what does 2K have in store for us with NBA 2K13?  We can’t say at this time.

What we can tell you, is that the game is slated for release on October 2, 2012 in North America for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC and PSP – a worldwide release follows on October 5th – with a Wii U version available in the system’s launch window, whenever that may be.

Though details on the game’s focus are mums the word for now, pre-order incentives have also been detailed.  Those that pre-order the game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will receive the NBA All-Star DLC package as presented by Sprite – seriously, it’s in the logo.

The package is set in Houston, which is the location of the 2013 NBA All-Star Game.  Activities provided to the player include the ability for the player to host their own All-Star game and take part in three additional events – a three point shootout, the rising stars challenge and the slam dunk contest.

Keeping with the features offered in previous entries of the franchise, gamers will have the option of pitting current All-Stars against the legends of the game in both the three point and slam dunk contests.

What do you think 2K will do to keep this year’s entry exciting and fresh?  Let your thoughts be known by sounding off in the comments section below.
