NiGHTS into Dreams Coming to XBLA, PSN, PC

The Sega Saturn classic will be released in HD this fall.

This past Tuesday Sega posted an image (pictured below) on their Facebook page and Twitter feed that puzzled at least a few folks. However, when the dust settled, the consensus was that it was from the NiGHTS series, sparking immediate speculation. Today, Sega revealed that the mysterious picture was teasing the announcement of an HD port of the original NiGHTS into Dreams to Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC.

The original game was released 16 years ago on the Sega Saturn and is widely considered to be one of the best titles available for the console. Chris Olson, Vice President of Digital Business at Sega released the following statement concerning this announcement:

The SEGA Saturn offered many unique gaming experiences, and NiGHTS into dreams… stands out as one of the most recognizable titles that found a home on the system. We’ve gotten a lot of requests about this game over the years, and are very happy to be able to give both former Saturn owners and new players a chance to play it in its most beautiful form to date this fall.

This port will feature improved HD graphics, a 16:9 aspect ratio, leaderboards, trophies and achievements. As an added bonus, an optional Saturn mode will be available that lets players experience the game with the original graphics used on the Saturn version. Check out the announcement trailer below.

Squee! So excited to be able to play this game again! One of my favorite titles for the Saturn and they'll be no need to have to have the 3D Control Pad.

Super Metroid Review Rewind

More stunning confessions from me to you! I didn’t get into the Metroid series until Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion, and didn’t even play Super Metroid until maybe two years after I played Metroid Prime. While the first Prime title took many design inspirations from Super Metroid, I didn’t enjoy Super Metroid at first, mostly because I played it through less than reputable means. Once I got to play it on the Wii Virtual Console, I finally understood why this game is considered an SNES classic. Super Metroid sports great game design, with a wonderful atmosphere unparalleled on any 16-bit system. At only 30 cents on the Wii U eShop until June 16, there’s little reason to not give this excellent title a shot.
