Nintendo Download: 6/7/2010

Nintendo gives DSi owners a warning in this week's press release.

Four DSi titles lead three WiiWare options in this week's Nintendo Download offering, and are followed with a warning that Photo Dojo will move from being a free download to a 200 Point title come June 11.

Together, the four DSi games offer fiery futuristic space puzzles in a magical tree. What's that? They're not cross compatible? Whoops! Fire Panic, Flametail, Don't Cross The Line, and Flips: The Magic Faraway Tree will have to sell on their own individual merits of fire-fighting puzzles, space-future garbage collection, line puzzles, and whimsical fairy tales, respectively.

In an effort to create more confusion, I'm going to say that gamers will enjoy fishing for meerkats with Disc Golf discs while at the zoo, an opportunity possibly only available on the Wii, as three separate gaming experiences. Reel Fishing Challenge II, Lead the Meerkats, and Zoo Disc Golf are this week's WiiWare titles. Independently, the games offer 30 fishing missions, lead a newly-beginning pack of meerkats through day-to-day savanna life, and play Disc Golf through an 18-hole zoo course, respectively. If you're wondering, no, the amalgamation of that last WiiWare title is not my work, the game really is based on Disc Golf in a zoo.

In addition, another new WarioWare: D.I.Y. game is up for download, this time developed by a Nintendo Power writer.

No new Virtual Console titles were released this week.

Flametail

Publisher: Nintendo

Players: 1

ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)

Price: 500 Nintendo DSi Points

Description: The year is 2099, and the solar system is littered with space junk. Our best hope for a tidier cosmos is to send the Flametail incinerator pod from planet to planet for a little fiery cleanup. Take control of the Flametail pod and start winding your way through obstacles, then watch as your flaming tail ignites blocks of troublesome debris and eventually eliminates them. Be careful not to work yourself into a dead end, and don’t let the hazard line that follows you catch up to your tail or reach any leftover garbage. Luckily, you can find useful items (such as bombs or score multipliers) along your path and earn special power-ups (like radar or a missile) by collecting letter panels to spell particular words. Effectively burn up the floating garbage in the game’s two modes – Space Tour and Time Limit – and earn new graphics and other surprises as you progress. The straightforward controls make it possible for anyone to take on the job of restoring space to pristine condition. Do you have what it takes to make your way to the outer reaches of the solar system?

Our Take

Personally, I'd like to collect meerkats in space in the year 2099, then draw a line for them to get run over by a disc golf. Of course, this would only be possible in the topsy-turvey world found at the top of faraway trees you can only reach by catching thirty fish.

That's just me, though.
