Beyond Good & Evil to Be Re-Released in HD

Ubisoft's cult classic will be upgraded to 1080p and released on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.

Earlier today, IGN announced that Ubisoft cult classic, Beyond Good & Evil was to be revived in HD. The title, created by Michel Ancel, was originally released in 2003 for the GameCube, Xbox, PlayStation 2, and PC.

This HD re-release is coming to Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network in 2011 and will feature a presentation in 1080p, cleaned up textures to match the resolution, updated character models, and a remastered soundtrack. Given its release on XBLA and PSN, the game will also see the inclusion of achievements and trophies.

In its time, Beyond Good & Evil didn't catch on in the retail space, though it was critically acclaimed and highly regarded by those who have played it. Players take the role of Jade, a reporter, who uncovers a massive conspiracy that involves both the military dictatorship, Alpha Sections, and a group of invading aliens, the DomZ.

Pricing hasn't been discussed yet, but again, fans should expect the title at an unspecified 2011 date.

Well, this is totally kick ass and completely unexpected news. Beyond Good & Evil was such a fantastic game, it's great to see it get a second chance at grabbing the attention of the mass market, especially at the undoubted budget price of $15.

With enough interest, maybe Ubisoft will be pushed to make the sequel that has been in limbo for seemingly the entire generation.

I guess I will have to give this game a second try when the time comes.

This is completely kick-ass, but once again, should we even be surprised that Nintendo fans once again get the shaft? I heard somewhere that the GCN version is the second best selling version of BG&E.

Thanks, Ubi.
