Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Preview

This surprise title from Nintendo's Press Conference will add a few new elements to the classic Luigi's Mansion formula.

It's been nearly a decade since the gaming world first experienced Nintendo's charming ghost adventure, Luigi's Mansion. Today, Nintendo surprised gamers by revealing the next title in the series, Luigi's Mansion 2, coming to the 3DS next year in 2012.

Unlike Luigi's previous frightening adventure, he will be traveling through multiple mansions this time around, trying to capture ghosts with his Poltergust. The 3D graphics promise to enhance the players experience by "[bringing] the mansions, ghosts and surroundings to life."

Similar to its predecessor, Luigi will encounter many different types of ghosts throughout the mansion, each with their own manner in which to be defeated. He will also be able to suck up money piles, coins, and the wallpaper off of walls, potentially revealing hidden passageways.

Defeating enemies and finding hidden secrets will give players access to secret areas and treasure chests; an element that promised to introduce brand new puzzle-solving mechanics as well as increase the variety of gameplay.

Finally, players will no longer be able to stun ghosts just by merely shining their flashlight on them, a major difference from the original Luigi's Mansion. Next time around, players will have to activate, and then release, a strobe function, which will then stun the ghost and allow players to suck it up with the Poltergust.

Luigi's Mansion 2 has yet to be rated by the ESRB and is expected to release for the Nintendo 3DS during 2012.

I would be even more happy if this game was made for the Wii U, but I'm still very happy that they are making a sequel.
