Darth Kill's 1Up Rant

Allow me to preface this blog with the following statement:

People who make snarky comments are going to recieve snarky comments in return.  I don't care if you're the editor of a video gaming site - ban me.  It's not as though there aren't a thousand other websites out there that offer the EXACT SAME services as you do.

Now, on to the meat n taters.

My account was removed today from 1Up dot com, which has been my primary source for blogging and fellowship with other gamers for the past 6 months.  Why, you ask...simple:  I got fed up with the shit that Editor Tina Palacios posts in her blogs.

She'll post vids of people doing insane things in shooters and follow them up with lines like "here's an insane kill that you're incapable of" or, "i'm no good at flying jets in Battlefield 3, and you probably aren't either."

Bitch, please.

So, today I viewed her newest blog post and decided I'd had enough.  I repled to her: "Just because you're dogshit @ dogfighting DOES NOT mean that I am."  She replied, and then I replied back, informing her that reciprocity was the word of the day.  Apparently the staff (or just her, more than likely) didn't like that, and banned my account.  Way to go out, 1Up....as soon as a member posts some shit that you don't like, which calls one of your editors out, you throw down the gauntlet with a ban.

But it's whatever, and throws into sharp relief an issue that I've seen on various sites:

Some editors think they're above reproach, and dislike being challenged in any shape or form.  Greg Miller ove at IGN is another guilty of this, as well as Dan Ryckert over at Game Informer.  These guys absolutely cannot handle it when the community gets snarky right back with them.

And why shouldn't a community member call them out on their comments?  After all, without us, the readers, their work would go largely unnoticed, as there is plenty more pressing news to read.  In the scheme of it all, video game journalism, while important to the industry, just doesn't have the urgency or importance of a mainstream media outlet like Fox News or CBS.   I'd like to add that Bill O'Reilly welcomes people to call him out on anything that is uttered from his mouth....that's professional journalism at practice.

If you're going to hold others accountable for their words and actions, prepare to be held accountable yourself.  Especially you, Tina Palacios.  Ban me, like I give a shit - there are other sites with far better things being published than yours, so you've done me a favor.  1Up's dying, anyway...all the best writers and bloggers have been picked up by upstart dot coms like this one, or are prepping to migrate south, or elsewhere for the frigidity that being a second-tier dot com brings with it.

So on that note, if you dislike what I have to convey, just ban me, and go out like a little bitch.  Exercise your digital authority and erase all possibilities of my iP being able to make it in.  I don't care...it's not going to keep me from playing video games, nor will it keep me from giving deserving assholes the exact same amount of snark that they've dealt RIGHT BACK.

It looks like, on that note, PixlBit is now Darth Kill's PRIMARY base of operations...and I must say, it feels good as hell to be home.

For the record, she's right - there's probably an insanely small statistical chance that I'd be able to pull off these kills. But the same goes for her, as well as the person actually making the kill. We all know this. It just burns me up BAD when an editor thinks they're badass because they play games all day. If this broad had any interest in games besides shooters, she probably wouldn't have drawn my ire. I also, like many other gamers, strongly dislike being relegated to the "general unskilled" that so many editors direct their snarky commentary toward. To date, I've not seen a single line written @ PixlBit that could be contstued as demoralizing toward the readership. That makes me happy.

I had no idea that you could get banned for something as simple as that at 1up. That being said, game sites need to realize that when you give the community a way of speaking up they will - even if you don't like what they have to say. We're glad to have you here Darth, welcome home ;)

I'm not a Tina fan, mostly because she's such a big FPS fangirl. I missed the fireworks though it would seem.

Tina Palacios is a bitch, and she looks like an Easter Island statue that sprouted arms and legs.

It's all good. Gonna miss the people there, though. It's really 1Up's loss, not mine.

That sounds pretty crappy, man. As I've said before, there's always a place for you here at PixlBit!

We're not into disparaging our readers - we're all just gamers, trying to have a bit of fun. Skill levels vary, experience varies, but if you found your way here, I think that's enough to put us all on the same page.

In any event, I agree, it's 1up's loss, but our gain! Looking forward to your regular blogs :)

This blog post makes me happy knowing that my opinion on the official gaming media has not changed one bit.

Just so you know, daRth_kiLL, we don't really ban logged-in members unless they start trolling or start console flame wars. We are a community that encourages open-minded discussion (though honestly, a few of my PixlBit staff know I can sometimes be an asshole if push comes to shove).

Just remember to follow our rules, and everything will be good fun.

Congregate, my friend! Then we'll promenade like a mofo! We needed a sith lord here at PixlBit anyway.

Wow, that's rough. I had no idea and I like a lot of their operations a lot. They just don't talk to their community too much, so it's a downer when a relationship like that gets strained so quickly. Glad to have you aboard.
