The Longest April Fools: THE GIA RETURNS

Well.  I'm shocked.

I saw a twitter account pop up bearing the moniker of The GIA, but I took it for a joke.  Even with people like Jeremy Parish responding to it in earnest.  After all... WEBSITES WHICH LIE DEAD FOR 11 YEARS DON'T SUDDENLY COME BACK TO LIFE.

The Gaming Inteligence Agency was a website from the late 1990's which specialized in video game news, especially of JRPGs and the like.  They tended to break news about JRPGs, and had many names writing for it that became well known elsewhere.  Their best feature was their mail column.  (You know, the days before WEB 2.0.  Although ANN still runs a mail column.)  They closed down on April 1st, 2002.  Everyone assumed it was a joke... but it wasn't.  Eventually someone archived the website and that was that.

Since then 1up has come and gone, things have changed HUGELY in games and internet and everything else.

Then suddenly and with little warning... BOOM.  The GIA returns.

I feel all that hope and joy that died when I left college swell within my heart for a moment.  *Sniff*  Welcome back GIA!  I hope that if there is ever a Legend of Dragoon 2 you can give it yet another F-.

Hmm.. I never heard of the GIA before..

Of course, I didn't REALLY become active on the interwebz until later 2002 or 2003 to be honest.

That's what's so amusing. Only a handful of people on NeoGaf even remembered the GIA.  11 years is an eternity for the internet.

Never heard of it either, but my hope and joy also dies after leaving college; now I'm going back. I guess I hate money.
