September 2013: Tales of Xillia and Dragon's Crown

Sorry.

I didn't mean to neglect my blog here so badly.  I'm busy writing manga reviews and anime reviews over at Fandompost.com.  Summer came and went so fast I nearly didn't notice it.  I feel like I don't have enough time to do everything I want to do, and my backlog of games/anime/manga/TV/books is reaching rediculous proportions.

So here are some impressions of the things I'm up to:

Tales of Xillia.  30 Hours Invested, somewhere in Chapter 2.  No spoilers.

Yeah.  30 hours and I'm only in chapter 2.  I was weary of the comments that the game was 'so-so' from some people.  I don't feel it's so so.  I'm enjoying the hell out of it.  The cast is great, Jude isn't a complete idiot like Asbel or whats-his-face from Abyss.  Alvin is hilariously shifty, all the time.  Even when called on it, he continues to be insanely sketchy.  I have everyone wearing random hats and glasses.  It's all delightful and even though I wish the advancement system was as good as Graces, it's still fine.  I'm having a blast.

Dragon's Crown.  15-20 hours invested, very close to beating the game of normal with an elf.

I don't even notice the big boobs anymore.  How could you, there's so much stuff going on onscreen.  I wish there was some sort of lock on because sometimes it's hard to line up shots when playing the elf.  Dragon's Crown is a great way to waste some time.  Best played in small bites.  The bad thing is I've fallen behind the one person on my friend's list playing the game and now I end up playing with randoms.  ALAS.  I love the artwork rewards in the game.  I wish more games did that.  ALSO, amazing Monty Python reference in the game.

I was in the Final Fantasy 14 Realm Reborn beta on PS3.  Both 3 and 4.

I played a cat girl.  Beta 3 I was an Archer and Beta 4 an arcanist.  I had more fun playing as an arcanist.  It felt a lot like playing WoW back in the day, except even more streamlined.  I don't have the time for a traditional MMO anymore.  Hotkeying everything to death no longer interests me.  There's always someone out there better than you gearwise.  I'd rather have smaller groups of friends doing INSANE gamebreaking things.  I hope Everquest Next ends up being insane.

That being said, I had fun fishing.

I plan on picking up Rayman Legends and Puppeteer.  So I promise I'll be back on soonish with impressions of those.  That will be it for the rest of the year, as I plan to finish my backlog and these games this fall and play the Witcher games when I get a new rig.  Next year, when Infamous Second Son is out I'll grab a PS4.  I'm excited.  What weird wonderful things will I be able to do with all that VIDEO.

I just grabbed Tales of Xillia this evening on a whim. I was bad, I should be saving money, but sometimes ya gotta go with it. It's still sitting in plastic, where it will remain until I have at least finished Assassin's Creed 2 and (hopefully) Tomb Raider.

Good!  Don't do what I do, which is immediately jump on the new shiny and then forget to ever finish the previous shiny!  I can't remember if you played Graces or not, but so far the story and characters are worlds better than Graces were.    I really enjoyed AC2 back when I played it, I think I platinumed it.  I haven't even brought myself to finish 3... my backlog is gonna swallow me whole!

don't worry about it!  As long as we know you're playing games, we're happy!  Winkhope your job is ok.

Oh, the job..... yeah, that's a thing that exists. Always looking for a better one of those.
