Magoo's Wrecking Crew + other stuff

Last week I spent a lot of time dealing with fixing pipes with my father and little brother. This week, we spent some time breaking stuff!

On the plus side, it's a lot easier breaking things than fixing them, so it didn't take that much time at all. The downside was all the cleanup combined with the fact that we were on the roof of our home and I'm not really good with heights.

An interesting bit that we discovered while we were working was what appears to be the remnants of some kind of dumbwaiter set-up. I've lived here for just about my whole life and I'm still finding out things about it, it's so cool.

After that, I spend some time playing the Smash Run mode in Smash Bros. Still trying to get some better equipment for some characters despite having some pretty crummy luck.

I also read about a group of scientists that successfully landed a probe on a comet and how this great achievement of science is almost completely drowned out due to the shirt one of the scientists wore and how 'it can potentially discourage women from choosing to go into this field'. I just don't understand the world sometimes.

I used to be so into atronomy and NASA, but I just removed the last two related podcasts from my iPod. I don't know, I still like it, it just doesn't seem too important in my life right now.

You really are trying to be like Mario.  First you were trying to do plumbing, now you're wrecking stuff like when he was in Wrecking Crew.  Are you going to be a doctor next?  Rescue any princesses laterly? :)

It's funny that you mention it, but I did want to be a doctor when I was younger. As for rescuing any princesses, I haven't yet, but who knows what the future holds?

I only heard about the comet landing cause people were saying it was more important than that Kim Kardashian bare-ass Paper Magazine cover. What did this scientist's shirt say?

The shirt had some depictions of women in provocative poses, which while a bit tacky wasn't really anything to get riled up about, at least to me. Though it's kind of funny how some people decried it as sexist (seriously though, how can a shirt be sexist? It's a shirt!), while disregarding the fact that it was a birthday gift from a female friend of his.

Some people have nothing better to do. I didn't see the shirt, I'll have to go look now and see for myself.

Demolition is soooo much fun! My OM team in high school helped our coach demo the interior of a house he bought and was going to remodel. An entire weekend spent with a crow bar and a six pound sledge. Heaven!

I hear you on the height thing. One of the last things I did at the park before I got laid off for the season was to scrape the moss and lichens off the roofs of all the buildings. Four days going up and down ladders and crawling around roofs and worrying that I'd step backwards while I was working thw whole time.

OK, I've now seen the shirt. And people really do have way too much time on their hands. One of the things people are saying is that it might discourage women/girls from entering that field. Seriously? If that's all it takes, then they aren't all that interested in the first place. Yes, the shirt is tacky, yes, it might not have been the wisest wardrobe choice, but it's not even close to the worst thing I've ever seen.

I like destorying stuff too. espiecally with C4.

I loved that t-shirt and the context of it all after the fact. the aliens out there must be wondering what is up with us humans.

It's stuff like that which reaffirms my thinking that aliens do exist (because with a universe this vast, it'd be beyond strange if we're the only ones out there), they just want nothing to do with us at all.

A dumbwaiter? How cool is that to find one in your house! Does it still work?

People need to calm the F down about the guy's shirt. He landed a probe on a freaking comet. Let's take a step back and applaud this guy, and the team he is on for not only landing something on a comet but for wanting to do this. I can't wait for the day when someone complains that wearing a tie will be sexist.

It's missing some things, but I'm sure the important bits are still there. I'd like to check if it still worked, but then it'd bash into the plumbing. My current theory is that it was mainly a service elevator when the house was first being built, and when later remodels were done to the house it seemed like the perfect place to stick in some water pipes.

You'd be surprised at what people can be offended by. Just the other day I read an article on how the Ruby & Sapphire Pokemon remake demos were slightly against women because the female main character only served as a healer for the male main character. That and another article that because the creator of Facebook decides to wear plain clothes it discourages women who dress better from reaching the same goals.

I should probably stop reading these kinds of articles, if only to save myself the headache.
