Crea Hands On Preview

A fresh -- but unpolished -- take on the procedural crafting genre.

It's a vast world of Minecraft/Terraria clones out there -- a very vast world.  But Crea, currently an early access title, hopes to differentiate itself with a "Talent" system -- RPG-like leveling where you spend points you've earned to level up your abilities.  Unfortunately, technical difficulties and poor controls negate an otherwise original take on an increasingly crowded genre.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate Hands On Preview

Castlevania returns to its side-scrolling roots, but things are a bit different now.

Rebooting a beloved and well established franchise like Castlevania was risky even before Konami outsourced the project to MercurySteam. But the little known Spanish developer, whose only major credit was the unremarkable Clive Barker's Jericho, would impress critics and fans with 2010's Lords of Shadow enough for Konami to greenlight two sequels. Mirror of Fate, a 3DS exclusive, is the first.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate Preview

Traverse the Belmont bloodline and battle Dracula himself.

2D Castlevania games have been on a short hiatus since the release of Order of Ecclesia on the Nintendo DS in 2008. Four years later and we’re finally seeing a new title, this one for the Nintendo 3DS. Development has shifted hands to Mercury Stream, the same team behind Castlevania: Lords of Shadow on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Fittingly, the brand new title, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate is set 25 years after the events of the original game, telling the tale of Gabriel’s descendants.

Centipede: Infestation Hands On Preview

Humans are involved, but it's not what you think.

WayForward Technologies is remaking the arcade classic on Wii and 3DS with 3D environments and new features. No longer limited by an invisible ceiling like in the original, players can run all around the enclosed arenas with the nunchuk while aiming the Wii remote and blasting away with the B button. Thus far in the game's development, the only other move is a stomp (done with A or C) and the D-Pad is for changing weapons. Whether there will be a jump to aid in dodging or exploration/adventure elements is still undecided at this point. I saw very few mushrooms and destructible barriers; hopefully they'll be added in the next several months of development.

Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D Preview

Step your little foot into this land before time, a time full of carnage.

The Combat of Giants series in a nutshell consists of a gathering of whatever enormous creatures man can muster up and then pitting them against each other to the death. These games have been historically based on dragons, mutant insects, or in the case of this game, dinosaurs. But for the first time ever, Ubisoft Montreal is bringing all the carnage and frenzy into eye popping 3D.

Conduit 2 Hands On Preview

The follow-up to The Conduit seems to be a step up from the original.

In my opinion, The Conduit was a mediocre shooter at best. It lacked a lot of the polish that you see in most shooters today, and it suffered from a number of bugs that could often make multiplayer very frustrating. From what I saw of The Conduit 2, the developers are addressing some of the concerns I had with the original game.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Hands On Preview

With Kojima Productions at the wheel, honestly, I was expecting a bit more.

As we all know, Hideo Kojima and his team are taking a crack at the Castlevania seris with the title Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. I was pretty excited to hear the news as 3D Castlevanias have always been a bit disappointing, and Kojima usually does great work.

Crackdown 2 Hands On Preview

The sequel is a massive improvement on the already excellent original title.

Crackdown 2 has been highly anticipated among many Crackdown fans. It seems that it's finally here and ready to play. My first impression while watching videos and looking at screen shots is that the game should live up to the quality of the original Crackdown. After playing the game, I can happily say that it has both lived up to its potential and surpassed the quality of its proceeder.
