MIA March Madness: Round 2 [UPDATE: VOTING CLOSED]

It's madness, I tell ya! Madness!!!

UPDATE: And that does it for round two, folks!  Keep your eyes peeled for round 3, which will be starting very soon.  Excitement!

Voting for round 1 of MIA March Madness has closed!  Do you want to see the results? Do you want to vote on round 2 matchups?  Of course you do!  Click through to see who came out victorious in the first round of the first annual MIA March Madness tournament and vote on round 2!

Before I get to the results, let me first say that I’m quite pleased with the turnout for the inaugural round.  MIA March Madness represents the first community voting event to be held here at PixlBit and I can now safely say it won’t be the last. We’ll be focusing on events like this in the future, so keep your eyes peeled.

That’s enough of that, let’s get to the real reason you’re here.  Round 1 Results!

Gitaroo Man vs. Mutant Leage

Winner…Mutant League!

Mutant League spent most of the round lagging behind Gitaroo Man, so you can only imagine my surprise when it came time to tally the votes that Mutant League had pulled ahead sometime in the night and won this round with a slim 52% of the vote.  This was the toughest fought match of the round, but it wasn’t the only close one.

Darkstalkers vs. Viewtiful Joe

Winner…Viewtiful Joe!

Viewtiful Joe initially held a commanding lead in the voting – a lead that got smaller and smaller and smaller until voting was closed this morning.  Still, that initial surge lead to victory with 53% of the vote going in its favor.  Darkstalker fans shouldn’t be too dismayed by this result though.  With Darkstalkers: Resurrection having just debuted, it would not be surprising if this series makes its way off the MIA list soon enough.

Lunar vs. Earthworm Jim

Winner…Lunar!

Considering the feedback on the Lunar MIA article, I was surprised to see it beat out a fan favorite series like Earthworm Jim.  But with 61% of the vote, Lunar came out victorious against the platforming worm in a magical space suit and proved just how much our community loves them some JRPG magic.

MediEvil vs. The Lost Vikings

Winner…MediEvil!

This was a tough one for me personally, and it appears it was tough for a lot of you out there too, but with 55% of the vote, MediEvil gets to move on to the next round.  Perhaps the obscurity of The Lost Vikings lead to its lack of votes, but it surely put up a fight!  Honestly, I don’t think there was any real loser here, as both series are sorely missed and we hope that changes sooner, rather than later.

Legacy of Kain vs. Streets of Rage

Winner…Legacy of Kain!

I know more than a few people were torn up about this match up *cough* Julian *cough*, but that just leads to more dramatic matchups!  And in what may have been the most dramatic matchup of the first round, the Legacy of Kain series won out with 57% of the vote.  Perhaps not as close as some may have predicted, but still a bloody damn close round.  The suspense is terrible.  I hope it will last.

Baten Kaitos vs. Onimusha

Winner…Onimusha!

In what I would consider another upset, Onimusha proved to be the more popular choice by a not insignificant margin of 61%.  Perhaps Baten Kaitos’ limited exposure, being released on the GameCube, was its undoing here, or perhaps it was because people just love samurai games in the vein of old school Resident Evil more.  The world may never know, but for now Onimusha lives on to fight another day.

Eternal Darkness vs. Bushido Blade

Winner…Eternal Darkness!

Every tournament has a blowout, and for round 1 this was it.  With 80% of the vote Eternal Darkness proved to be too strong for Bushido Blade to put up much of a fight.  It really was insanity…get it?  See what I did there?  Anyways, Eternal Darkness moves on to the next round – can it be just as dominating in round 2?  We’ll see.

ROUND 2

Now that winners have been proclaimed, it’s time to move on to round 2 matchups!  Since there was no classic “seeding” for this tournament (seriously, how hard would that have been?  Can you imagine the fights among the staff?) it has been determined that all matchups would be chosen at random – that means I just pick them out of a hat – so don’t be thinking there’s any kind of conspiracy going on here.

And now the matchups…

Come on ActRaiser!  It's hands-down the best game in this list!  Retro Rampage just did an episode on it because it's THAT good!  I'm surprised DarkStalkers got knocked out already - it's such a good little fighter!

Make me choose between MediEvil and Legacy of Kain. You heartless bastard!

That was the toughest decision for me this tournament so far.  Two of my favorite series going head to head.  Blood has indeed been spilt.

I see I need to do some lobbying. Remember that Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain was The Legend of Zelda for adults. Soul Reaver took voice acting to new levels. Defiance had two enemies forced to team up, with levels that played very differently.

Let's just all forget that Blood Omen 2 happened, kay?

Blood Omen is a great game and Soul Reaver completely blew me away in terms of story telling and the gameplay mechanic.

I can forgive them Blood Omen 2

It's tougher to pick a favorite this round.  I mean, choosing between the charm of Lunar and the gameplay of ActRaiser?  Yeah, that's not an easy decision.  Also, I'm completely at a loss for two of the match-ups, so I'm going to have to think on them.

Legacy of Kain deserves a reboot the most for me. I also voted for Viewtiful Joe, but the rest I am unsure about, so I didn't vote for them.

PSA: Polls are closing very soon everyone - if you haven't gotten a vote in, I suggest it. A couple of these match-ups are neck and neck!
