Double The Fun? - Mario Mania #2

Two games in one part! Can you guess which one I like better?

Lost Levels' Enemies

The following are the new enemies that appeared in the Lost Levels:

Poison Mushroom

Oh god why? Why does this thing even exist in the first place? Those who have played the VC version (a direct port of the Famicom Disk System game) know that these little assholes hide in normal blocks and move around like normal Super Mushrooms. Unlike Super Mushrooms, Poison Mushrooms are not friendly – they shrink you to small Mario or kill you if you are already small. That said, avoiding these things are not impossible once you have nailed down where they are. Newcomers, however, will not.

Red Piranha Plants

I will give Lost Levels some credit where deserved: they introduced the main color for the Mario series’ iconic plant enemy. These ones break Piranha Plant rules by popping out of pipes randomly. Didn't have a screenshot, but just image a Piranha Plant from SMB1 colored red.

Outgoing Firebars

Their appearance in non-castle stages made for some hellish platforming challenges. Thankfully, its patterns didn’t change from Super Mario Bros.

Even with an enemy count double that of the original Super Mario Bros., SMB2 USA's enemies and bosses were 100% brand new to the series. It’s a shame most of them never returned.

Pidgits totally appeared in Super Mario World. I should know, I played the game for Halloween! To see a pidgit, one must complete the bonus world obtained by finding the secret exit in the last Star Road stage, then find a stage with horizontally-fired Bullet Bills. Instead of Bullet Bills, Pidget Bills are fired! Or something like that. They're definitely pidgits, though.
