Track Your Game Collection with PixlBit

The latest site feature will allow you to track your collection of games and wish list via a simple to use interface.

As you may have come to realize by now, PixlBit is always changing and growing in different ways. Today, we are rolling out a brand new site feature: the ability to manage your game collection and game wish list.

Via the new interface you can add games by merely entering the title, marking which system it's for, and specifying if you are adding it to your collection or wish list. Additionally, you can specify notes and how much of the game you've completed. Updating added titles is just as much of a cinch, as well.

You can reach your own game collection in the header bar after logging in via the link, "My Games". Viewing another member's profile will provide a link to see their collection. For a preview, feel free to check out my collection.

While this new feature is just being rolled out, it's still far from done. This is where you, the reader, come in. In response to this thread, please leave feedback about new features you'd like to see to help you manage your collection. Visual tweaks can also be made, so be sure to let us know exactly what you think.

Thanks, hope you guys enjoy the latest PixlBit has to offer!

Awesome. I've kept my collection list on IGN, but they're system isn't upgraded yet to filter other options other than "Collection" and "Wishlist".

Do you intend to have a user rating option?

This looks good, I'll definitely make use of it.

Can you have a bunch of text boxes for a single System drop-down box? That would speed entry up. Or edit a note from the game list without clicking on the game first, and see other people's game notes.

Awesome, glad to hear you guys like it.

I'll add user rating for sure and the ability to edit a note and remove a game from the game list. I'll add in the ability to see other people's notes too.

As for your first suggestion, Zap, can you elaborate? I'm not sure I'm following what you're saying.

So I can add a bunch of games onto one system at the same time it might look like this:

__game name entry__

[5 more]

[System: 3DS]

I click on 5 more and it shows 5 more boxes to type in games (or 10 or 20, or w/e)

__game name entry__

__game name entry__

__game name entry__

__game name entry__

__game name entry__

__game name entry__

[5 more]

[System: 3DS]

Ah, ok, easy enough. I'll get it done.

Also, if someone wants to compile a list of systems not represented in the system currently, I'll add them all in.

IGN fails now that they changed their interface to be like a 'social media' site. It is terrible. I like where this is going.

As a member of staff, I feel a certain obligation to use this feature. It's a good thing that there's an option to just use a text file, because it'd be a pain to have to enter in each game individually yet again for a website. Fortunately, in this case, it was as easy as copying over my list of games from GameFAQs into a few text files and uploading those.

This leaves them all listed as "Not Completed" without any notes though, and I may not bother with that aspect.

Is it possible for one of the options in the update page to be "Remove", or better even on the list page because I've got quite a few empty slots on the PC list, and some more empty slots here and there on other platforms.

Awesome, Nick! I'll be making use of this as well.

I just looked at Nick's preview. I like how it's done... But I want to be able to custom pick the colors for each console! Is that possible?

Nick DiMola Director

12/31/2010 at 06:23 PM

Alright, just added the ability to delete entries, see notes from the game listing page for other users, and the ability update notes for your own list from the game listing page.

I'll start working on the other two requests pretty soon. I'll also look into allowing people to choose from a list of colors for each of the systems.

The biggest problem? As it stands now, the colors are pretty close to garnet and gold, which, well, represent the Seminoles. I'm not adding a second console until the colors change!

Happy New Year, you can now choose colors. I'll get to the others within the next couple of days.

Alright, User Rating now available. I also added in the ability to mark titles as physical or digital. I'll probably add another chart that compares percent digital to percent physical.

Hey Zap, does that Plain Text Uploader accomplish the same thing you were going for? If so, I think we're done with all of the requests.

If you guys come up with anything else, let me know.

Just a small thing, but there's no white colour to pick! The Wii motif is white, it doesn't look right as anything else, and the XBox 360 was also originally white. A grey would also be nice for systems that are grey themselves, like the PlayStation and NES.

Nick DiMola Director

Alright, grey and white are now available. Let me know if any other colors would be nice.

OH YEA. The text uploader is the best. There are other ways to improve it bu--oh my effin brother people. Colors? Give me a break.

Matt R Staff Alumnus

The text uploader stopped working for me. I can upload but it doesn't add any to my list.

Nick DiMola Director

Should be working again now. I also made it so that blank entries don't get added when uploading the file.

I'm sorry--I think I am just being really dense. I would love to use the Game Collection feature, but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to put in a game! I can see the Game Collection page and the all games page, but I don't see any data entry box or edit link. Do you have concise idiot-proof instructions? Thank you!

Nick DiMola Director

01/04/2011 at 10:31 AM

Not a problem. Basically here are your steps:

1) Log into the site

2) In the top bar underneath the menu it should say "Welcome Back, [USER] | My Profile | My Games | Sign Out"

3) Click "My Games"

4) Upon arriving at the "My Games" page, you'll see in the top right corner, above the words "My Game Collection", there are three links. "Add Games | Upload Plain Text File | Set Colors"

5) Clicking on Add Games will allow you to enter game information up-to-three at a time.

6) Clicking on Upload Plain Text File will allow you to take a plain text file, new line delimited, and upload it to the site and have it add to the selected lists.

7) Set Colors allows you to choose the box colors for each system on your Game Collection Home Page.

Just in case you still can't find the links, here they are:

"My Games" | "Add Games" | "Upload Plain Text" | "Set Colors"

Step 4 is not true for me. I don't see anything of the sort. Not sure why. The link worked, though. I tried adding games to see if that changed anything on the front page, but it didn't. Thanks for the help.

Nick DiMola Director

01/04/2011 at 11:18 AM

Check it out again now, it should be working.

Thanks for the ratings, Nick. Game collection transfer (IGN to PixlBit): COMPLETE!

Kathrine Theidy Staff Alumnus

I know where you got the picture that shows up in the rolling headline. That dude's collection is insane, the pic doesn't even show half of it. The guy doesn't count his stuff though, so I don't know how many games and systems he actually has.

Nick DiMola Director

01/05/2011 at 01:22 AM

Yeah, his collection is disgusting. I remember seeing it a few years back and thought for a split second that it wasn't worth collecting games any more because I could never have a collection as good as his.

Then I realized that it wasn't that important and kept on trucking.

Just popping back in to see if people are still getting use out of this feature. Also, now that you've all had a chance to use it for a while, any other enhancements you'd like?

Joaquim Mira Media Manager

I can't think of anything at the moment.
