Final Fantasy X Headed to the PS3, PS Vita

The former PS2 game now has an HD version in development.

During Sony's Pre-TGS press conference, Square Enix revealed the development of an HD version of Final Fantasy X for the game's tenth anniversary. The game, announced on stage by producer Shinji Hashimoto, is in the early stages of development, so Square Enix did not release any assets to coincide with this announcement.

Ahahahaha. I can taste the FF7 fanboy tears.

They need to face the fact that Final Fantasy 7 was a very ugly game, Nick. It might have looked great at the time, and the cutscenes still look nice enough, but those blockheads in the game just would upconvert in such a pretty way.

But really, it's because the PS3 and Vita can't play PS2 games! Sony and others all have a chance to rerelease those PS2 games, where they just have downloadable PSX games. It's the perfect plan!

That's actually a good point about re-releasing PS2 games.

And Final Fantasy VII wasn't an ugly game, honestly. The models were pretty limited, and the blockiness was bad, but the settings and most other elements were well done. But yes, today, it would need to be remade. Upconverting wouldn't cut it.

Oh, yeah, the prerendered stuff looked pretty. I meant the characters. I've think I've made people out of Lincoln Logs that look better than the overworld FF7 characters.

But even with all the extra work it would take, can you imagine how much money they'd make with an FF7 remake?

Especially if they threw in a retranslation, maybe some new materia. That game would sell PS3s.

I agree with Kyle. I'd sooner assume they'd want to put in the extra effort to remake 7 because it would be a gravy train. Honestly, who wouldn't buy it? I don't even like the game all that much, but I'd be inclined to grab it to see if a new coat of paint makes it more appealing.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were waiting for the PS4 to make the game. Imagine if it was revealed as a launch title? They could roll out a similar trailer that the did with the tech demo they did for the PS3 and then tag on "This time we're serious." People would go nuts.

PB & Jason Issue 87: Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition '13

This issue of PB & Jason is about downloadable content. Specifically, Capcom fighting game DLC. If you're not familiar with Capcom and their recent fighting game issues, let me paint the picture: They've conditioned many of their fans to hold out on buying the first edition of a title, since an upgraded version with bug fixes, balance adjustments, and new characters is often on the horizon. More than that, they've locked content on discs behind pay-walls, then reacted with surprise when they learned gamers weren't happy buying a game and then being charged a second time for content already on the disc. In PB & Jason, I take a look at a serious alternative, suggesting a few benefits that could be had for all involved. Oh, and don't forget all the talk about Tales of Graces f and new, used, and backwards-compatible PlayStation 3s! Join me for the best PB & Jason for this week ever! Click through for the download links.
