Ninja Gaiden 3 to Push Wii U Hardware

Team Ninja is working hard to push the Wii U to its limits.

At E3 earlier this year, Nintendo showed a Wii U “sizzle reel” showcasing games that were said to be in development for or would be ported to the system at some point in the future.  One of the titles shown was the highly anticipated Ninja Gaiden 3, a franchise that hasn’t seen Nintendo console release since 1995’s SNES Ninja Gaiden Trilogy.  While it was fantastic news that Ryu would be slashing through enemies on the Wii U, there hasn’t exactly been much information concerning the title since.  Actually, there’s been no information until now.

Speaking with VG247, Tecmo Koei localization head Peter Garza indicated that the game is indeed still in development and that Team Ninja is trying to push the Wii U hardware “as hard as it can.”

Garza also indicated that the team was just getting the game up and running on the system, but that it wasn’t going to be a simple port of the PS3 and Xbox 360 version of the game, saying that they want to take full advantage of the Wii U’s unique specs and features.

Said Garza at the Eurogamer Expo, “It’s not being developed in parallel, but we do have the game up and running on the dev hardware.  We’re still playing with control schemes to see what would be fun with the Wii U, but it’s definitely there and it’s definitely getting worked on.”

Unfortunately Garza was unable to provide much in the way of details concerning how powerful the Wii U’s specs were and what they would be able to squeeze out of the system saying, “That’s kind of hard to say right now because, like I said, we’re just getting it up and running now on Wii U and we’re still finding out what the hardware can do and how to work with the hardware itself.”

Ninja Gaiden 3 will be released next year on the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.
