Modern Warfare 3 Grosses One Billion Dollars in 16 Days
Which breaks the entertainment record set by James Cameron's Avatar in 2009.
As expected, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has been a massive success for Activision. Like past installments, the game has grossed in the billions; however, Modern Warfare 3 has managed to reach the mark faster than any other. In just 16 days, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has made $1 billion. This surpasses a record set by James Cameron's 2009 film Avatar, which grossed $1 billion in 17 days. This data is according to Charttrack and retail customer information.
In a press release sent by Activision, there are a purported 30+ million people playing the latest in the series, boasting that this "exceeds the combined populations of the cities of New York, London, Tokyo, Paris, and Madrid." Call of Duty Elite has also proved to be a success with six million players subscribed to the new service.
Modern Warfare 3 has been breaking records since release with one day sales and five day sales. However, there have been issues with the Elite service, a strange disc read error, and some overzealous fans.
