Insomniac Bids Adieu to the Chimera

The studio that birthed Spyro and Ratchet & Clank is done with Resistance.

Resistance 3 was a great game and a fitting end to a trilogy that Insomniac started with the launch of the PlayStation 3.  While it was a critical darling, the shooter wasn’t as successful at the register, selling roughly half the copies of its predecessor.  Low sales aren’t keeping Sony from having developer Nihilistic Software bring the series to the PlayStation Vita in the form of Resistance: Burning Skies, but as far as Insomniac is concerned they’re done with the franchise.

“We won’t be making any more Resistances,” said Insomniac CEO Ted Price in an interview with VG247.  Without the interview being fully disclosed it’s hard to tell why Insomniac is leaving the franchise behind.  It could be that they have their hands full with Overstrike, the studio's first multiplatform release, or that they simply have nothing left to say about the Chimeran invasion.

The studio head also had some words to say about the company’s new social game division, Insomniac Click, and how they may have a role in the evolution of the platform.  “Certainly over the next couple of years, we’re going to see a huge evolution in visuals in social games.  It’s thanks to improving technologies.  It’s thanks to browsers that are getting better and more powerful.  It’s thanks to development teams – core traditional game teams who are moving into the space.”

Played the first Resistance when my bud just got his PS3. I liked it, it was a nice alternative to WWII and Sci-fi shooters at the time. The second one had killer online co-op. Didn't even know the third one came out last year....
