Chrome Xbox 360 Controllers Coming Mid-May

The new controllers feature the transforming D-Pad.

Those in the market for a new Xbox 360 controller will have a few more options come mid-May. Microsoft is planning to release a Chrome series of their controllers, which features a glossy red, blue, or silver finish. Retailing at $54.99, the controllers will all feature the transforming D-Pad, which gives players two modes of operation. In its default position it will operate just like the D-Pad on the standard Xbox 360 controller, but when turned, it does a better job of sensing the cardinal directions.

While not a panacea to the D-Pad control issues, it should provide a greater degree of control not found in the standard controller line.

Yes! I've always wanted a way to make my controllers look even more grimy after use.

I might actually pick one of these up because I want that new dpad but I didn't like the color scheme of the silver controllers. The blue and red controllers should show less finger prints.

My new slim came with one of the newer all black ones and I like it a lot. Plus I have an older black one and a white one from the fat 360 days and they're not quite in need of replacement yet. The only thing I really need to deal with is the rechargeable battery packs I have. Rechargeables have to be replaced every couple years or so and mine are way over due to get replaced, like "I first used them to beat Halo 3, way over due".

I don't have a recharge pack. I have a bunch of rechargable batteries that I used for a lot of things. Controllers, camera, wireless mouse, etc. Seems more convenient to me.

Red White and Blue huh?  Very patriotic!

They also seem to have moved away from the monochromatic buttons on the original transforming D-Pad controllers.

Speaking of the transforming D-Pad, it's not all that great.  I used a friends and it's not a whole lot better than the standard one.  There's gotta be a 3rd party solution with a real D pad out there somewhere besides the air-flows, which I can't get hands on with enough to try out.
