God of War IV Announcement Imminent?

Sony may finally be ready to let the cat out of the bag.

We’re all but positive that Sony plans on releasing a fourth installment in the God of War series.  There have been various leaks and clues that hinted at the game’s existence for quite some time now.  And now, if Sony’s PlayStation Facebook page can be used as any indication, it seems that they may finally be ready to reveal the game for real this time.

Earlier today a new banner image was uploaded to the Facebook page (see article image) that asks “Will Vengeance Bring Redemption?” and provides the date of April 19, 2012.  While this isn’t necessarily proof positive that a God of War reveal is just around the corner, it certainly seems to be the most likely scenario.  After all, what Sony hero is in need of redemption more than our favorite, vengeful Spartan, Kratos?

The real question that hangs in the air is, what kind of announcement are we getting come the 19th?  Will fans finally be treated to God of War IV?  Could a Vita title be in the works?  A combination of both?  Let us know what you think in the comments section below, and we’ll be sure to give you the complete lowdown on Sony’s big reveal in one week.

In the end, Retro has delivered a solid new entry in the series, but one that doesn’t totally capture what originally made the series so compelling.
