SoulCalibur V Review

On the stage of history SoulCalibur V takes two steps forward then one step back.

SoulCalibur has long held a special place in the hearts of fighting game fans.  The combination of weapon based combat combined with exaggerated, yet memorable characters was a welcome change of pace from the Tekkens and Virtua Fighters of the day.  While never accused of being the deepest of fighting games, its trademark accessibility assured that both the core and casual fighting fans could enjoy their time in the ring.

Scarygirl Review

Is she supposed to be scary because she looks like a ragdoll dressed as a pirate?

Video games are art. Many people, including myself, stand by this philosophy and when asked for an example, many of us will point to recently made indie titles like Flower, Braid, and Bastion. All of these titles are part of a renaissance of old school design that are making a comeback on the downloadable front. Though only a minor mention in Nintendo's third quarter investor briefing, it seems yet another 2D side-scrolling Mario game is in the works for the 3DS. According to Nintendo, the two Mario games released in 2011 for the 3DS - Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 - are their centerpiece evergreen titles. That information combined with the overwhelming success of both New Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. Wii make a new 2D side-scrolling Mario game an easy call.

Samurai Sword Destiny Review

It’s a shame these visuals were squandered on such a shallow game.

Given the touch screen of the 3DS, it’s no surprise that iOS game, Samurai Sword Destiny has made its way to the Nintendo eShop. What’s also unsurprising is just how shallow the experience is, given Destiny’s original home. With a combination of two level types, players will find themselves either slashing arrows and avoiding boulders during forced progression, or dispatching a variety of foes by continuously slashing back and forth until all enemies are defeated. It’s a mindless timewaster that doesn’t command its price.
