Nerds Without Pants Episode 66: The Great White Buffalo

High five.

Welcome back to Nerds Without Pants! It’s been almost a full month since the Pantsless Ones got together to record, and after the heavy topic of episode 65 they decide to keep things light. So that means two hours of meandering talk about video games, comics, blasphemy, and indie pro wrestling, among other things. Enjoy!

Nerds Without Pants Episode 65: Chatting With Liana K

First Erika Szabo and now Liana. I need to move to Canada!

Welcome to an unintentionally bonus edition of Nerds Without Pants! Angelo hosts this episode, featuring special guest Liana Kerzer. Liana is a TV and internet personality who also writes about video games for Metaleater. The reason for Liana’s visit was to talk about mental health in relation to video games, but we had such a great time talking to her that the episode went beyond 3 hours. So we’ve decided to split the Consumption Junction and topic portions of the show into two. Please enjoy a lengthy Consumption Junction this week, and come back for our regular time next week as we discuss mental health and the healing power of video games.

Nerds Without Pants Episode 61: The Music of a Generation

I really hope you all appreciate this gift...

By now you have probably opened all of your presents and are wondering what else to do with your day. Since you can’t go to the theater to watch The Interview (topical!), why not kick back with some eggnog and listen to the Nerds Without Pants have an exhaustive discussion about some of our favorite music from the seventh console generation? And yes, I realize that I blundered when I brought up BioShock Infinite. We were almost 4 hours into recording, so cut me some slack! Happy Festivus! EDIT: You can thank Angelo for pushing to get this episode out early for you Christmas Eve travelers. Enjoy!

Nerds Without Pants Episode 60: Risky Business

Man, we should probably all start playing some video games on this video game podcast...

Welcome to the last regular episode of Nerds Without Pants of 2014! Since it is our last opportunity to talk about what media we’ve been consuming until January, we get together and…not really talk much about video games. Huh. Well, it’s a show, anyway.

Azure Striker Gunvolt Review

Full disclosure, there are no electricity puns within this game review.

I would call Azure Striker Gunvolt two things; one would be the perfect replacement for a lack of a new Mega Man X/Zero title, and the other being a very meaty 3DS eShop release with high production values. With easy to understand gameplay, a fantastic graphical style and a slew of abilities and optional gear to collect, Azure Striker Gunvolt is a great call back to the 16-bit era of action games and an all around great game despite some design flaws. It even comes with the free game as well!

Shovel Knight Review

Yacht Club Games kickstarts an instant classic.

When you think of side-scrolling platformers, it’s hard not to recall old-school classics like Donkey Kong, Super Mario Brothers, and Mega Man. Shovel Knight, a modern day 8-bit 2D side-scrolling platformer, feels like a blast from the past. After an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign, Yacht Club Games’ first release is a grand slam.

Wrack's Run 'n' Gun to Completion: An Interview with Developer Brad Carney

This could be the “Doom Clone” you've been hoping for.

If you’ve tried Wrack in its current early access version on Steam, you’ve no doubt realized that this isn’t another shooter marching lockstep behind Halo and Call of Duty. Wrack is an intentional throwback to the sensibilities of Doom II, and its lead designer, Brad Carney is hoping there are enough people out there looking for that classic experience. Carney sat with me at QuakeCon and talked about the good and bad of having an early access game on Steam and how a six-year (!) development cycle can really benefit an indie game like Wrack.
