Catherine to Be Released in North America

From the creators of Persona 3 and 4 comes a game about the pleasures and horrors of love.

Yesterday, Atlus announced plans to release Catherine in America. After a teaser sent late last week, asked Atlus Faithful, "Do You Still Like Us?" Atlus announced full plans to bring the latest from the creators of Persona 3 and 4 to the United States. The game, which will be releasing on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, offers up a unique blend of genres not unlike what has been offered in the Persona series.

Genre Deathwatch 2011

We’ve seen the fall of rhythm games, what’s the next one to kick the bucket?

It has been roughly six years since rhythm gaming really hit the market with force, thanks in large part to the runaway success of the Guitar Hero series. Before long, plastic guitars were supplemented with plastic drums, and microphones, and the birth of full band rhythm gaming was upon us. Eventually Harmonix landed on the only logical conclusion for such a genre – the ability to play real instruments to real notation within the game. At the point of reaching the plateau, the genre has been given a death sentence. Activision is halting the Hero series and Harmonix has been sold and downsized, needless to say, things are looking pretty grim for the future of rhythm gaming.

PixlBit is Hiring!

We have a number of positions available and not all of them require you to write.

Back in 2008 I had the opportunity to realize a longtime dream of mine - writing and reporting on video games. Nintendo World Report afforded me that opportunity, regardless of the fact that I had no experience writing professionally or performing journalistic tasks at all. As we all know, from there, I went on to establish this website, which covers not just Nintendo, but gaming as a whole. Now with my own site, I'd like to offer the opportunity I once had to a fresh generation of game journalists. Here's the great part: you don't need any experience to be eligible for a position and if you aren't the writing type, we have other positions that might suit you.

Nintendogs + Cats: French Bulldog & New Friends Preview

The three versions offer 27 breeds of dog, 3 breeds of cat, and they all take use of the various 3DS abilities.

Many can attribute the runaway success of the DS to the release of Nintendogs nearly six years ago. Up until its release, the DS still hadn't found a strong foothold with the market outside of gaming enthusiasts. Nintendo, recognizing the success of the game, has prepared a suitable follow-up for the launch of the Nintendo 3DS. Nintendogs + Cats takes the familiar formula established in the original Nintendogs, adds a new type of animal (cats), and takes use of the various abilities of the upcoming handheld hardware.

A Question of Morality: Console Hacking

The recent mess involving Sony, the PS3, and root key hackers brings the issue to the forefront.

If you haven’t heard the news already, the PlayStation 3 has been hacked. Typically, this kind of news isn’t really at the forefront of game websites, as most gamers aren’t hacking their consoles, nor do they have any interest in doing so. However, this time, Sony has drawn an unbelievable amount of attention to the issue since their home console has been hacked. Sony has systematically sued every hacker involved with the discovery and release of the root key. Additionally, Sony has taken it one step further and has gone about subpoenaing Google via YouTube for the information of users who commented on any videos related to the hack.

Further Proof of Okamiden 3DS?

After doing some more poking around on the Capcom press site, I discovered something interesting.

As many of you know by now, I programmed the PixlBit website and professionally and educationally, I am a programmer. More specifically, a web application programmer. Needless to say, I know a thing or two about the construction of online interfaces, as well as the databases that back them. With this knowledge, I did some elementary snooping into the front end html and request strings for the Capcom press site to find out as much as I could about last night's interesting Okamiden 3DS posting.

Pilotwings Resort Preview

Pilotwings and Wii Sports Resort collide for this 3DS launch title.

Back at E3 2010, Nintendo fans were dazzled by the resurrection of several Nintendo franchises on the Wii, like Donkey Kong Country and Kirby. The 3DS featured a new title in an old series as well, a title known as Pilotwings Resort. Die-hard fans of the series have been waiting nearly fifteen years since the release of Pilotwings 64 to see a new entry in the mere two title series. Though fans have waited many years for the series' reprise, the unique technology of the 3DS should help in making the wait worthwhile.

Games I Just Impulsively Bought: Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland

Don't ask why, but I've wanted the game since it released in Europe over three years ago.

It has been a long time since I've impulsively purchased a video game. In fairness, I have wanted the game for quite some time now. As a matter of fact, when Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland was first announced for release in Japan my interest was piqued. When I heard it was to release in Europe I got extra excited because I knew that I could eventually play it (no, I don't know Japanese).

An Announcement From Nick and Chessa

Click through for a quick audio update.

As you may have noticed, things have been a bit slow on PixlBit as of late, and Chessa has nearly disappeared. I promise, there's a perfectly reasonable explanation for all of it!
