Not officially, but I thought it would neat since all of these super hero movies are coming out and all to do a few super hero games for Retro Game of the Week. So for the next five weeks, we'll look at five oldschool super hero games. Some will be good, some will be terrible. As to what those games will be, it's a secret. So be sure to check back on Saturdays in August to see which games I'll be playing and reviewing.

Until then, let me ask you, do you like super hero games? What is your favorite oldschool super hero game? Notice I said "oldschool," so you can't say Arkham City. I hope you look forward to it, Pixlbit friends, and thank you!

I was always a big fan of Dazzler.  I think she had a cool power.

Favorite superhero game... the original Spiderman on Sega Genesis.

Hm, haven't played that one. I'll have to give it a try, especially since I'm a big Spider-Man fan.

you know what was also good was the Spiderman & Xmen game for SNES

You mean Arcade's Revenge? I used to have that game, and it is NOT good. Perhaps you're just nostalgic for it.

ha ha that's very possible.  That spiderman game is cool though... you have to take pics of the boss fights to get money from the newspaper and stuff.  I remember that very clearly.

Is Spider-Man 2 (PS2/XB/GC) old enough to be old school? If so, I pick that. If not, I'll go with Spider-Man on PS1/N64/DC.

I suppose it is. Spider-Man on N64/PS1/DC was really good, though, especially since it was the first 3D SM game.

Honestly, I think all my favorite old school superhero video games were Spider-Man, including the brawler with Venom I forget the name of and the ones you've both mentioned.

But my old school game is Arkham AsylumWink

Nah, X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse was awesome in its time. Mmmm SNES nostalgia.

How about Super Pac-Man and Bomb Jack?  Is that old school enough for you?

Since I never really got into comic books, I didn't ever get into super hero games either.  I did play some of the beat em ups in arcades like Captain America and the Avengers, and TMNT as well as consoles ones like Sonic Blast Man.  But that's about it.

Most of my knowledge of Marvel and DC characters comes from games like LEGO Batman and Marvel vs. Capcom.  Are those retro enough?  I decided that She-Hulk would be my favorite Marvel character simply because Phoenix Wright is in her ending in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and I really like Phoenix Wright.

The only comic book I really got into was Sam & Max, and they did have a few video games, but I don't know if you'd count them as super heroes.

I also like Astro Boy, and that was a comic book by a man who many consider to be the father of manga.  And Astro Boy: Omega Factor on the GBA is one awesome game.  Have you ever played it?

Well, that's all I know.  Why don't you pick out some super heroes and super hero games that you think I would like?

No, I'm afraid Sam & Max are not super heroes, but I'll have some great games for you in the next few weeks, some of which you should try, Cary. Astro Boy's awesome btw.

How about the NES TMNT game?

Technically, they're not super heroes since they don't have any super powers (they're just mutant turtles who know some ninja stuff). Classic game, though, even though it has its problems. These games are strictly DC/Marvel games.

Well Batman doesn't have any super powers. :P

Superman 64? :)

I haven't played many superhero games; although, I've started to put a bunch of them on my lists to play. I did play a bit of Ultimate Spider-Man on Xbox. I played the fight with Rhino and it was fantastic. I want to go back and play the rest of it. sometime. I also want to try the Deadpool game. I've heard it's pretty funny and not bad.

Ultimate Spider-Man is probably my favorite 3D SM game. Fun, comic-booky, and lots of villains to fight. Definitely keep playing it!

It's going to be high on my list for the week I focus on 2005.

It will be interesting to see what you play. There are a lot of superhero from back in the day but not that many good ones. I don't think there's a good 2D Spider-Man game, personally. And just DC/Marvel? No Nightshade then, I guess Tongue Out

Um, I already did Nightshade, which you can read here. I say only DC/Marvel bc there's not much outside of that. But all the game's I've picked are DC/Marvel games.
