Blog a Day #16

Hello everyone, how are you?

The PS4 has been out for 8 years now, will be 9 this November. Normally for video games I always give Nintendo a priority in terms of hardware because it will always have games I want to play. For the others I usually get them late into their lifecycle. One benefit of this is that most of the games you wanted to try out will be incredibly cheap. I got my PS4 in 2017 during a Black Friday sale and since then I've tried a good number of games. Some incredible, some great, some good, and some okay. I feel like I haven't played a ton of PS4 games but I feel like I have played through more than enough games to make a list of favorite games. So with that said, here is part 1 of my Top 10 Favorite PS4 games...

HZD

I had Horizon Zero Dawn for a few years now, I remember getting the complete edition for $10 brand new during that Playstation Days of Play sale thing. But I never got around to playing it. Not due to the lack of interest, but because of all the games I was playing at the time. You only have so much time to play games these days. I finally got to try it last year and it's such a good game actually. I love the idea of a post-apocalyptic world that is in overrun by machines. Not all of them are hostile but those that are will try to kill you on sight. I love how you can approach enemies in any way you like and there's different methods of taking them down. It really makes you feel like a hunter. I found the exploration arund the open world map to be very fun, I really loved seeing what I'd find next. Aloy, the protagonist of the game, has also been making a name for herself since she has appeared in both Genshin Impact and Fortnite as a collab character.

UC4

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is the final Uncharted game starring Nathan Drake as the main lead. One thing that is different about this game is that there is no cursed artifact or supernatural beings and whatnot. The game is more grounded in reality than the previous games in the series. It's an interesting change but I think they wanted to try something different. The gameplay has been tweaked and I feel it is pretty much perfect here, never really had no issues and I really loved the grappling hook mechanic. The graphics are definitely a huge step up from Uncharted 3 and the environments and set pieces all look great. A lot of the times I'd just stop to look around and admire the environments. The game does suffer from some pacing issues but I still like the game regardless.

Spider-Man

We've had Spider-Man games for years, some good and some bad. Marvel's Spider-Man is definitely one of the best Spider-Man games ever made. I just love web swinging around New York, it's just so much fun. There's a fast-travel option but why the hell would want to do that? The graphics look great as well, both the environments and the characters themselves. The combat is great, but I think the only problem is the camera itself during the actual combat. One thing I love is all the references to other superheroes, like you have the Avengers Tower and the Wakandan Embassy to name a few. I really love that they all exist within the continuity of the game, and with Insomniac working on a Wolverine game that's part of the same continuity as this game, it seems like they have something much bigger planned.

GoT

Ghost of Tsushima as I mentioned before is pretty much RDR2 and AC but in Japan. It takes some liberties with how the actual events happened but it doesn't really matter. I feel like this game has one of, if not the most beautiful environments and locations that I've seen in a PS4 game. When I wasn't taking down the invading Mongol forces, you could find me just exploring to see what I'd find. I also think the gameplay itself is fantastic. You have various stances that are used on the different type of enemies you'd encounter. I also love how you could approachan enemy camp in any way you'd like. You could either use stealth or just call out all the enemies to fight and as they say, stealth is optional. The voice acting and performance is among some of the best I've ever seen since RDR2. Definitely one of the best games that I've ever played.

RE2

I mentioned before that I had played the original Resident Evil 2 on the N64 when I was a kid which makes it the first RE game that I had ever played. It wasn't till 2020 that I finally got to try out the remake of this classic. I was left impressed with how the game looks, it looks really stunning. I also love how the graphics add to the atmosphere and the creepy environment as you're making your way around the halls of the police station. The gameplay is what I feel is like the best in the series. It feels like the gameplay from RE4 but better. I love that you can aim, shoot, and move at the same time. That to me is such a welcome change. One thing I can say that this is among my top 10 favorite remakes that I've ever played.Definitely check it out if you haven't.

So that's part 1 of my favorite games on PS4. I'll have part 2 coming up soon. Thanks for reading and...

I got my PS4 at a Black Friday sale, too.  I believe it was in 2016.  I still play it.  Don't feel the need to upgrade to PS5 yet.

As soon as I traded my PS4 and got a Switch, I now want another PS4; the slim version this time.

Those are great choices. I'm glad to see Horizon Zero Dawn is going to have a sequel out soon. I've been eyeing the comic too.
