Several months ago I decided to start doing some posters of the best NES games. I could have done many more, but I decided to do a total of 21 games. I want to share these posters with you over the next few days. I really enjoyed doing these, and I hope you enjoy gazing at them. Hopefully they'll bring back some good ol' NES nostalgia for you. With each game is the developer and the original NES date of its release.

You can find these posters and more of my work at deviantart.com. I'm ninjadude719, and I have more VG artwork. Thanks!

That Donkey Kong poster is boss!  At first glance, I thought it was the actual artwork for the arcade cabnet.  Good work!
I also love the posters you did for Gradius and Metroid.  Two of my favorite game series.

Also, Nice work drawing Bowser with his original grey color from the Japanese artwork.  Good attention to detail.

Thanks, Jamie. I wanted to keep these close to the original NES designs.

Imagine if that Metroid poster had the female version back in '86. Oh, the scandal! Also, I wonder how fundamentally different SMB would have been if you had to choose between the mushroom and the flower? Good stuff, man.

Thanks. Yeah, I don't believe there is any original artwork of Samus outside her suit (mainly because that part was a secret).

Oh man, Samus is a girl?! Spoiler! Ok. I actually knew that already.

That Gradius poster is rad!

I love the Bullet Bill in the Super Mario Bros. poster. I'd love to see a Chain Chomp. I don't know why, but those things are funny to me. I would do a Zuma/Chain Chomp mashup if I was a developer. Or, I would put a Chain Chomp in a cannon to take down other ship's sails in a pirate game. How cool would it be to have a pirate ship that shot Bullet Bills and Chain Chomps? Cool!

Hm, interesting idea. A chain chomp is pretty much a cannon ball with teeth, so that idea would work perfectly.

Yea, plus they used to shoot balls with chains on them in real cannons. [wiki search] They're called Chain Shot and they were used to shred sails and rigging in opposing ships at close range.

Granted it's not exactly like a Chain Chomp.

I recall now reading that Miyamoto was thinking of a dog on a chain for the Chain Chomps idea.

Nice work! I especially liked the Metroid and Gradius. Gradius had some amazing cover art! I'm curious to see what other NES games you picked. I like to draw sometimes. I have to be really motivated or I can't draw worth a crap though.

Thanks. Drawing is one of my passions, so I love taking the time to sit down, contemplate, and then just let it out. If you enjoy drawing, give a try sometime and show us some artwork! We would love to see it.

Nice. You have a distinct style that I dig, and really complements the vibe of these games. Reminds me of when they had the fan art in the front of Nintendo Power. Memories.

Thanks, Joe. I wanted to be faithful to the original designs.
