So I was in the next town over yesterday, and hard to park in a municipal lot that used a ticket system. I ducked into a nearby Gamestop to ask about it, since there's a two hour limit between 9 and 6; I also asked whether they had any PS4's in stock out of curiosity.

This turned into a 20 minute conversation about next-gen consoles and gaming in general.

The clerk (I really should've asked him what his name was -_-) is entirely convinced that the PS4 shortages are a deliberate effort by Sony to limit stock, and is deeply aggravated by it as the store is being hounded by requests constantly. Just like with the Gamestops near my house and my job, though, they still have Xones in stock. He doesn't see much more reason to buy either right now than I do, both due to cost and lack of games and promised features.

Instead, he had bought a WiiU, and absolutely loved it. It was cheaper--he liked not having to get a subscription to pay for online service--and has far more games to play than it's competition. Not needing installs like the other two platforms and having external hard drive support are also two major pluses for him; the storage solutions for the PS4 and Xone are pretty lacking in that regard, as you need more space and have less options to expand it right now.

There wasn't any pressure to sell me something or anything. Just a conversation from one gamer to another. It was nice, LOL. :p

While I wouldn't put it past Sony to deliberately hold back consoles for headline reasons, I find it unlikely. I think Microsoft just did a better job getting more consoles made. It does look good for Sony though that they're selling what they're producing. I like you will wait for GAMES!

It does help that MS is aiming at a smaller number of countries. Plus they were absolutely hellbent on ensuring the US had adequate stock. Yet even with Sony's supply problems they're likely still neck and neck--in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they were selling more.

But yeah, there aren't enough games I want to justify buying either right now.

Well they did it for PS2, and ask any psychologist and they'll tell you past behavior is the best available (not perfect, best) predictor of future behavior, so ... I don't know, but I could see that.

WiiU's pluses are interesting to read about.

Right now, it does have several things going for it compared to the others--cheaper price, exclusives worth a damn, etc.--but it's competition is poised to close that gap and never look back over time. It won't be long before both outsell the WiiU in the States at this rate, either.

I really don't think Sony is doing that, though. They'd sell as many units as they could ship, so why sell less? I think the demand is just that high that they couldn't meet it no matter which countries got priority.

At this rate I may end up getting a WiiU sooner than the other 2, LOL.

I wish I met a gamestop clerk that actually had some form of knowlegdge when it comes to games and the industry as a whole. I understand they don't want to see biased or go against corporate policy but it would be nice to meet a sales clerk that KNOWS about games/systems besides handing out sheets on early releases.
