No game is perfect. No matter how close it gets to perfection, even the absolute best titles fall short, whether it be in areas large or small. Here are a few examples from my personal favorites:
- Mega Man X - The weapons aren't even remotely balanced. Like, at all. Seriously, once you get Storm Tornado, Fire Wave and the full powered Rolling Shield, you really don't need anything else outside of boss fights.
- Final Fantasy X - The voice acting is wildly inconsistent. And no, I'm not talking about the laughing scene--that was SUPPOSED to be awkward, and thus wasn't any better in Japanese. No, I'm talking about how wildly inconsistent the acting is in general, with solid performances for Khimari and Wakka vs. Yuna's VA not knowing what she was doing half the time. The rather awkward dialouge certainly didn't help, but still...
- Street Fighter 2 - The cast is horribly imbalanced. The Shotos (Ryu, Ken, Akuma), Sagat and Dhalsim stand head and shoulders above most everyone else. Also, if they were going to re-release the same game 4 times, would it have killed them to make more new sprites? It's hilarious how the characters in the Super upgrades (Cammy, Feilong, T.Hawk and DeeJay) look so much better than the original 12.
- Victorious Boxers 2 - The graphics are woefully basic and lack detail, and the vast majority of the cast (including several of the main characters) are just clones with different special moves. The lack of voice acting makes the in-game cutscenes really awkward, and the story mode glosses over several parts of the original manga while covering other stuff in too much detail.
- Tomb Raider 2013 - The story and voice acting are just "eh". I don't feel any investment in any of the characters--including Lara, whose supposedly slow and unwilling evolution into a powerful opponent to Mathias doesn't jibe well with how indestructible and lethal she is from the beginning. She's never feels as vulnerable during actual gameplay as the story tries to make her look.
- Devil May Cry 3 - I don't like Dante as a character. As cool as he is in combat, his goofy one-liners are more facepalm-inducing than funny. Really, the writing in these games has never been good, whether it's been done by Capcom internally or Ninja Theory (who was actually WORSE). The fight scenes are certainly cool though.
