My personal favorite games I played in 2014 were Guilty Gear Xrd, Dungeon's of the Endless, and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. I have no skin in this game.  But this right here helps confirm suspicions I had about how things work, as if I didn't already have enough. Video games have been politics since the Xbox 360 launched, at least. If your game isn't pursuing the correct trend or narrative, some of these people won't just not considerate it, they'll actively be against it. From what I can tell, Bayonetta 2 was finely honed on nearly every level of game design, for its genre of course. To dismiss it because of social thingamajigs is unprofessional, in my opinion.

Hey assholes, leave appreciation of the art of game making to people with actual brains. Games are part engineering, very technical in terms of production tools/methods and creativity, so no wonder half these nitwits retreat to the confines of "narrative" and "culture" when appraising them

P.S. No offense to any real critics out there whose wheelhouse is cultural or narrative critique. Believe me, the video game nitwits don't even do that well.

I find this offensive to lesbians.

Bayonetta 2 was fantastic, to hell with anyone who'd say shit like that. Not a fan of action games? Fine, but Bayo 2 is as good as they get and if you can't see what makes it good or at least why it should be in the running, you shouldn't be critiquing games

As far as I'm concerned, an awards judge doesn't get the luxury of being a fan or not of particular genres.  The decision should be based on what something does per the standards of its niche, as well as general game design standards.  I expect more from people in that position than from people just casually opining about games. Maybe I shouldn't.

Probably shouldn't have read that.  Well, the internet let him have it afterwards, but people like that are so full of themselves that they can't be reasoned with.  Really, he would have quit his (likely unpaid) "job" as an anonymous judge of an awards show after only one year if Bayonetta would have won game of the year?  Might as well tell Geoff Keighley to cancel next year's show cause he's down a douchebag who is stupid enough to tweet remarks that both alienate potential viewers and undermine the award itself.  I've always taken the VGAs and now The Game Awards winners with a grain of salt ever since a WWE game won best fighting game (What's that?  WWE airs on the same network as the VGAs?  Okay that seems legit).

I figure, for a lot of these venues, it's about money, politics, and culture, not product quality. A game has to represent the right things to get a real shot with these people. They exploit the hobby for their ideological ends.
