Happy November!

I bought Transistor during that sale too. I only played a few minutes to make sure it worked, but really enjoyed the last game those devs made (Bastion), so I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Who Would Win?

I'll be the odd man out and vote on the Toads. Mainly because of how massive their fists and feet become upon landing a combo. Plus they mysteriously grow giant ram horns when ramming into enemies. They gotta be hardcore if they can survive the Turbo Tunnels.

Billy or Jimmy Lee would help out too though with their arsenal of cyclone kicks, hyper knees, and magic if we're talking DD Neon. Cool

Got the Humble Indie Bundle 12

I haven't played Gunpoint, but really enjoyed SteamWorld Dig (even if it was a little too short imo) and Hammerwatch. HW is kinda similar to Gauntlet if you ever played that. They just released a free expansion for it on Steam too.

Nostalgic Vacation: 1984 - 1942

I recently played through 1943 (the NES version), and felt that while it was a solid SHMUP overall, it wasn't worth the effort required to beat it. The game dragged on for FAR too long: 24 stages! That's insane for a NES SHMUP! It kept repeating itself. You'd fight the same bosses over and over. The difficulty was all over the place. I'd breeze through some stages, but then get stuck on others for hours on end. There was also some horrific slowdown near the end. So much that it almost made the game unplayable. The password system was really nice though, and it was fun... but again, it simply dragged on for way too long IMO. Sorry if this has nothing to do with 1942 lol Embarassed

Guess Who Just Finished Half-Life 2?

Posted on 09/19/2014 at 12:49 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Have you played the original Half-Life? Man, I used to love that game... but having played through it recently, felt differently. It's so incredibly easy to die. Almost to the point where you have to save every five seconds simply to make progress. Then again, I probably just sucked lol.

My favorite part of Half Life 2 was the Gravity Gun.

Blue and Pink

Nah. I got rid ot it. I wasn't a fan of the Wii to be honest. Not with the gimmicky motion controls, vast amounts of shovelware, and having to buy batteries all the time.

Blue and Pink

That Kirby's Dream Collection is great. I recently played through it while I still had a Wii. Don't forget about Kirby's Dream Land 2 on Gameboy! It improves upon the first game by quite a bit. Kirby's Adventure was the only Kirby game I knew for a long time. Your right about the slowdown. It can be pretty bad at times. HAL Laboratory must have pushed the NES hard when they made that.

Retro Game of the Week: Final Fantasy IX

Posted on 09/06/2014 at 11:15 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I think Quina is hilarious, and he/she is actually my favorite character in FF IX. Personality wise anyway. In battles he/she is pretty much useless. Blue mages have always been a crappy class in FF games though. Steiner is awesome too ... but then again, the whole cast is great really. They are all so vivid and memorable. Bosses may not give XP, but you can steal some of the best equiptment this game offers from them. Multiple times too! It's a shame FF IX came out so late in the PS1's life cycle because it seems like a lot of people missed out on it.

Tomb Raider Update

Posted on 08/13/2014 at 07:58 PM | Filed Under Blogs

This isn't much of a surprise really. Remember when Square Enix considered the Tomb Raider reboot a "failure"? Despite selling over 3.4 million copies at the time? That's crazy lol. It costs so much to make AAA games nowadays. If they restricted it to one console, especially one that's lagging behind in sales like the X1... well, it just doesn't seem viable.

July 2014 Recap

Posted on 08/07/2014 at 12:56 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I recently played through Strider on Steam, and enjoyed it quite a bit. It gets repetitive after awhile... but then again, what game doesn't?

I never could get into Earthbound though. Despite the seemingly endless amounts of praise surrounding it. I guess getting it free off the Wii U's VC is  better than paying the asking price for a SNES cart.Money Mouth
