Retro Game of the Week: Batman Returns

Posted on 08/04/2015 at 11:18 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I played through this not that long ago. It's not bad! Way better than I was expecting! While It kind of felt like a Final Fight clone, there were a lot of nice little touches. Like using the grappling hook to pull that brick off the wall and smash the random goon holding Vicky Vale hostage. I also thought it was kind of ridiculous how many thin clowns lived in Gotham City.

Nice collection! X-Men Mutant Apocalpyse on SNES is quite good. That's one of my favorite X-Men games besides the arcade game by Konami.

Nice haul! It's always so exciting getting a new console. I got a 3DS (completely out of nowhere) for Christmas and have really been enjoying it.

I played Rage on PS3 and liked it a lot. I was kinda surprised by how good the racing was. It felt great, and I definitely wasn't expecting that. As for Legends vs. Origins,,,, well, I honestly couldn't say which was better. They both rely on a LOT of trial and error. Legends has a TON of levels where you are running away from flames or whatever other instant death. Which annoyed me to no end. If you like 2D platformers though, they are both highly polished, and I don't see how you could go wrong with either.

Bastion is pretty short. It took me about 7 hours to finish. I liked Hotline Miami a lot, and am looking forward to the sequel. I can understand why some people wouldn't like it though. That game is brutally violent at times.

Good luck with Eternal Champions! It's single player is brutal. Losing matches sends you back to the previous opponent, and you really need a six button controller to play it properly. Still, it was pretty fun with a friend. Plus there are secret stage fatalities to discover!

Mega Man Review

Nice review! I miss this series. I've played through all of them, but never really cared for the first game. It's kinda rough. Having the proper weapon against the bosses definitely gave you a huge edge though. Guts Man can be taken out in three hits! It wasn't always so obvious in some of the later games.

The Genesis soundchip takes a lot of flak, but there were some developers that did some great things with it. Gauntlet IV has one of my favorite soundtracks on the system. The Quest mood is pretty cool too. I'm kind of curious about the recent reboot despite the mixed reviews it recieved.

Retro Game of the Week: Wrath of the Black Manta

I used to have this game in what now seems another lifetime ago. Even back then I probably knew it wasn't that great, and it's no wonder why I couldn't ever figure out how to beat the last boss. Not if you had to use four different ninja arts. Shadow of the NInja was a great game though. Definitely an underappreciated gem on the NES.

Who Would Win?

I'll be the odd man out and vote on the Toads. Mainly because of how massive their fists and feet become upon landing a combo. Plus they mysteriously grow giant ram horns when ramming into enemies. They gotta be hardcore if they can survive the Turbo Tunnels.

Billy or Jimmy Lee would help out too though with their arsenal of cyclone kicks, hyper knees, and magic if we're talking DD Neon. Cool
