Despite recent issues at home, THQ's romp with Death will debut this summer.
We all know that THQ has been going through a bit of a rough patch lately, but that hasn’t stopped them from soldiering on with the production of Darksiders II, a title that fits right in with their newly adopted strategy of concentrating on more traditionally ‘core’ games. Today publisher THQ has treated fans to a bit of a Valentine’s Day offering, by announcing the release date for the next Horseman’s adventure.

Truly unique. A very memorable experience. When describing any other game, these phrases would likely be taken as a compliment. But Conker’s Bad Fur Day isn’t just any other game, it’s a twisted take on the generally cheerful worlds of the typical platformer. Chalk full of blood and gore, alcohol and drug use, and more curse words than an episode of South Park, it ranges from a clever parody to sickening immaturity. The gameplay itself contains some interesting ideas, but it ultimately falls short of reaching its full potential.

THQ announced plans for layoffs that weren't from its five main internal studios a few days ago. In light of yesterday's NASDAQ delisting threat, we now know what those cuts are going to be. It has been confirmed by Joystiq that THQ has let go 175 employees; chief among them is Mark DeLoura, Vice President of Tech.
The publisher's share has dropped too low for NASDAQ's comfort.
THQ was once known as the publisher of dozens of licensed video games each year. Recent attempts to diversify their portfoloio has resulted in a significant drop off in their profitability, which wasn't helped by the declining popularity of the licensed game market. As a result, downsizing and layoffs have been announced and their share price has dropped below a dollar. The Saints Row publisher now faces NASDAQ delisting.
A shift to focus on "core games" leads to a restructuring.
It’s been bad news for THQ lately. The company had to close Kaos Studios after underwhelming sales of new IP Homefront, and completely shuttered the Red Faction franchise after Armageddon failed to take off. Rumors have surrounded the company in recent weeks, with the most alarming reports suggesting that the company would be cancelling all of their 2014 releases, which was later debunked. The company has announced its exit from the children’s game market, instead focusing on core gamers. But we’ve learned that the company has just let go of 75 workers as of today.
From the beginning until the end of time, Death will be there.
