Netflix Cancels Game Rental Plans

The news was revealed in an investor meeting.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings told a Q4 investor meeting yesterday that Netflix has no plans to offer a video games rental service. Hastings didn't offer more details as to why the company scrapped its plans, nor did he say whether or not they have plans to do so in the far future.

Netflix, Music Unlimited Confirmed For PlayStation Vita

Kaz Hirai announced the apps at CES 2012.

Tonight marked the beginning of CES 2012 with keynote speeches from various hardware developers. At Sony's conference, Sony Computer Entertainment President Kaz Hirai announced that Netflix and Music Unlimited are coming to the PlayStation Vita.

New Xbox Update Removes Netflix Party, Prohibits Class Action Lawsuits

Microsoft's problems with the new dashboard continue.

As the new dashboard for the Xbox 360 is introduced to millions of gamers, some changes are upsetting users. IGN is reporting that the Party feature in the Netflix app is no longer there. This feature used to allow Xbox Live subscribers to hang out with their friends' Avatars while watching a movie or show on Netflix. Microsoft offered this statement about the feature's removal:

Netflix Gives the Ax to Qwikster

Qwikster is dead, long live Netflix!

Earlier this month Netflix shocked its user base with the announcement that they would be splitting off their physical DVD/Blu Ray rental operation into a new service called Qwikster which would also feature a video game rentals to compete with companies like GameFly.  This meant that if current Netflix subscribers wanted both digital and physical subscription models, they would have to have accounts with both services.

PS3 Netflix Streaming Solution Won't Change Soon

Netflix confirmed that the service won't be integrated into the XMB interface for a while.

Steve Swasey, the Netflix Vice President of Corporate Communications has confirmed with G4 that PS3 owners will have to use their Netflix streaming discs for at least a year in order to access the service.
